Pattern Energy Group's corporate headquarters is in San Francisco.Job PurposeThis position is responsible for monitoring market design policy initiatives and regulations that may impact Pattern's operating fleet across North America, and making strategic and tactical recommendations as to Pattern's response to such initiatives and regulations. The activities of this position are largely externally focused, including working closely with expert consultants, independent market monitoring, research, and content creation, and attending/contributing to regulatory and industry stakeholder panels/events. The position will provide subject matter expertise to the company on issues regarding power interconnection, generation, transmission, and scheduling with a specific focus on compliance and regulatory protocols. The position will cover entities such as DOE, FERC, ISO/RTOs and PUCs, in both the United States and Canada.This position will represent Pattern at various regulatory and industry events, communicating on behalf of Pattern on various regulatory initiatives. This individual will need to anticipate impacts of new/revised regulatory policies to Pattern departments (such as, Accounting; Energy Management; Engineering, Asset Management & Field Operations) to give notice of any changes to current business practices. This individual will need to provide guidance in market rules to help departments document internal procedures to comply. This position requires a lot of initiative to determine what regulatory proceedings are most important to the operating fleet and work effectively cross-departmentally to gain necessary feedback. Key Accountabilities+ Represent Pattern in relevant ISO/RTO stakeholder committees and trade association groups to monitor market design policy initiatives and regulations that may impact Pattern's operating fleet. Attend in person and/or virtually as needed. Demonstrate excellent stakeholder management skills to engage and develop relationships.+ Gather internal Pattern feedback and engage external consultants on regulatory initiatives to determine Pattern perspective. Participate as necessary, including making presentations and submitting comments. Communicate internally to Pattern affected departments the status of relevant regulatory initiatives, as well as any responsive strategic or tactical recommendations. + Performs research and monitors new and/or changed market design regulations, proceedings, and statutes in jurisdictions of interest to Pattern. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert and/or Liaison on regulatory initiatives involving power interconnection, generation, transmission, and scheduling. + Maintain a watching brief on the status of the company's key power markets, to ensure upcoming market evolutions are effectively tracked and communicated.+ Build strong relationships with key industry stakeholders and regulators in efforts to develop public policy agendas and strategies benefiting Pattern. Build strong relationships within Pattern and external consultants to gather relevant feedback.+ Assist FERC & ISO Compliance Manager on implementing new and/or changed regulatory compliance processes. Assess regulatory requirements to identify and strategize potential solutions to the identified risks.Experience/Qualifications/Education Required+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.+ At least 5 years of experience in the power market; preferably in regulatory affairs within the power generation segment.+ Strong knowledge of regulatory activity at the RTO/ISO and PUC level, with familiarity with the structure and operation of Canadian energy markets.
