The Trader Lead is responsible for trading desk operations and conducting commodity trading transactions, while specializing in the 30-day spot market. This role will collaborate with others to support the overall business objectives, including multiple counter-party deals and work on sophisticated problems related to commodity trades, transportation and storage. Strong problem solving skills and the ability to bring a new perspective on existing solutions to improve performance, efficiency and safety are keys to success!

Day in the Life - Northeast / New England Trader

The Lead New England Trader holds a crucial role in overseeing physical trading desk operations and driving profitability in the region. With a minimum of 5 years of regional experience, this position requires in-depth market knowledge, established industry relationships, and a track record of success. Responsibilities include executing trades, optimizing storage and transportation strategies, valuing assets, managing positions, creating new deals, maintaining counterparty relationships, and driving continued profitable growth while mitigating risks. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as scheduling, financial trading, and risk management, is essential for effective coordination. Proficiency in the Endur deal entry/risk system is required. Overall, the Senior New England Trader plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing trading strategies to maximize profitability and contribute to the success of the organization.

Responsibilities/Expectations:

  • Buys and sells energy related products on a short-term and intermediate basis, transacting for profit or on behalf of the organization's assets
  • Conducts trading by contract with producers, energy traders and consumers within the company's trading strategy guidelines, risk limits and government regulations
  • Analyzes trading opportunities systematically to have an optimal transaction portfolio
  • Conducts trades that optimize profits and level of risk exposure and monetizes the value of the inherent optionality in the trading book's contracts
  • Collaborates with others to use futures and other financial tools as a service for customers and for internal hedging of deals
  • Negotiates transportation and exchange agreements to implement sales to local distribution companies and other end users
  • Serves as a customer service contact, communicates market conditions and implements strategies to improve the business's operations
  • Contributes to overall business strategy, collaborates with scheduling/distribution teams to deliver on trades
  • Other duties as assignedEducation/Years of Experience:
    • Required: Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering, Accounting, Finance or related field; a minimum seven (7) years of experience in energy marketing or similar business with five (5) years direct trading experience
    • Preferred: MBA; minimum seven (7) years of commodity trading experience in energy trading businessShift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements:
      • After hours work regularly required, willing to be available 24/7/365
      • Must be willing to travel up to 25%Other Requirements:
        • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
        • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and PC skills
        • Adaptability to respond to market changes and unexpected situations
        • Understanding of volatility of supply, storage, constraints, tariffs and regulatory actions
        • Sound knowledge of regulatory environment and legal and risk policies
        • Preferred: Knowledge of trading systems for specific commodity market
