Job DescriptionTeacher of the Deaf- All grade levels (within Pasadena ISD)Job Title: Teacher of the DeafDuty Days: 187Pay Grade: T07-T08Primary Purpose:Assist Pasadena ISD and the Region 4 Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD) by providing students with specially designed instruction and instruction aligned to grade level standards based on students' individual education plans in general and/or special education settings.Qualifications:Education/CertificationTEA Teacher Certifiation requirementsBachelor's degree from accredited universityValid Texas Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing certificationValid Texas Assessment of Sign Communication certification(Preferred)BEI or RID Interpreter Certification (Preferred)Special Knowledge / SkillsDemonstrate knowledge of hearing loss and its impact on students' educational, social, and emotional developmentDemonstrate knowledge of the IEP process, including evaluations, multidisciplinary approaches, goal setting, and implementationDemonstrate general knowledge of curriculum and instructionDemonstrate general knowledge of Universal Design of Learning principles and differentiated instructionDemonstrate knowledge general knowledge of assistive listening technologies as it relates to students who are deaf and hard of hearingDemonstrate ability to read and interpret evaluation and assessment results (i.e. audio-grams, state assessments, etc.)Demonstrate effective collaboration and facilitation skillsMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Collaborate with students, parents, campus, and district staff to provide high-quality specially designed instruction for students who are deaf and hard of hearingImplement an instructional or skill development program for assigned students and provide written evidence of preparation as necessaryPlan and use appropriate instructional / learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodations and/or modifications for individual needs of students assignedCollaborate with general education teachers to accommodate and /or modify general education curriculum as needed for maximum student participationConduct formal and informal assessment and use results to inform instructionPrepare for Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings as lined out in full job description.Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings as lined out in full job descriptionPresent subject matter according to guidelines established by the IEPEmploy a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needsand capabilities of each student assigned utilizing technology when appropriateCreate a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to thephysical, social and emotional development of studentsManage student behavior and administer discipline, including non-verbal crisisintervention and physical restraint of students according to IEP13. Consult with general education teachers and other staff (i.e. Paraprofessionals,Audiologist, occupational and physical therapists, interpreters, etc.)Proactively seek parent support and input as lined out in full job description.Troubleshoot and maintain auditory equipment, contacting the educational audiologist when problems arise, and train general education teachers regarding their useMaintain confidentiality of student records and information discussing issues only with the educational team responsible for the student's educational programAttend all required district, campus, and Region 4 RDSPD meetings and trainingsComply with all Region 4 RDSPD, campus, and district policiesPerform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor / principalSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise assigned instructional paraprofessionals and assist in the supervision of assigned student teachers/ interns and/or volunteers WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands:Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; maintain emotional control under stress.Physical Demands / Environmental Factors:Frequent standing; stooping; bending; kneeling; pushing and pulling; possible heavy lifting of students.
