Responsibilities

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) Category role includes defining supplier requirements, defining special process supplier qualifications, conducting special process audits, defining audit requirements, improvement, and action plans, and developing key suppliers towards increasing standards of excellence. Category SQE - Metallurgical will have expertise related to unique Special processes associated with the materials associated with the Oil and Gas Industry such as Materials/Heat Treatment/Stress and Fatigue related failure analysis are the critical expertise needed for the particular Category SQE at the time of hire.

A successful candidate will collaborate closely with Engineering, Sourcing, Category Management, Product Lines, Manufacturing, and his/her supervisor on a regular basis as well as present to internal teams on failure and root cause analysis, program development, supplier qualification, and audit progress, metrics, and overall project status.

  • Assist the Supplier Quality Director in the development of the Supplier Quality program including process and procedure development, supplier due diligence, audits, scorecards, and supplier development.
  • Assist in the development of standard Supplier Quality procedures for use across Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, and Product Lines; rationalize and simplify existing procedures and guidelines as applicable
  • Ensure a compliant and qualified supply base by conducting supplier evaluations, supplier qualifications, supplier scorecards, supplier improvement action plans, and supplier audits
  • Harmonize Supplier quality requirements in collaboration with Engineering.
  • Interpret Design Engineering data (including blueprints, Bills of Material, specifications), and customer requirements.
  • Mentor Supplier Document Analyst team.
  • Review customer/project specifications and identify quality requirements.
  • Review, evaluate, and define Inspection test plans/quality plans that may be required for Suppliers or manufacturing.
  • Participate in kick-off meetings/pre-inspection meetings with suppliers.
  • Review and approve vendor quality documentation for First Article Inspections at a minimum; Sourcing, ASL team, and Supplier Quality must coordinate to ensure all documents are collected from the supplier.
  • Develop and utilize supplier scorecards in line with the requirements of the Quality Management system
  • Identify opportunities to modify and improve Engineering specifications based on quality defect data and analyses
  • Improve supplier quality performance for assigned suppliers via Quality Plan implementation and relevant monitoring based on the risk categorization of the supplier
  • Evaluate Non-conformances related to suppliers to determine consistent failures and trends.
  • Develop positive relationships and work closely with Engineering, Sourcing leaders, Manufacturing leaders, and shop floor personnel to manage and implement supplier and engineering changes
  • Interface with Suppliers, Engineering, and Sourcing to drive Quality improvements that minimize the Costs of Quality, specifically Failed on Arrival/Install (FOA/FOI) issues, field failures, and factory defects
  • Ensures Corrective and Preventative Action Reports (CPARs) are prepared by supplier, completed with the sufficient level of depth, and actions are monitored through to effective closure
  • Identify and report any quality concerns and take immediate corrective action as required
  • Maintain an attitude conducive to progress through positive change, continuous improvement, and an active contribution to teamwork concepts
  • Execute other quality tasks as requested by the Director Supplier Quality

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED

    --- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    --- 10+ years of experience in Metallurgical Engineering experience in an industrial related business
    --- Metallurgical Special Process (Heat Treat, ) expertise
    --- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and API
    --- Demonstrated experience with special processes, third parties, supplier qualifications, and audits
    --- Up to 25% Domestic and International Travel

    PREFFERED

    --- Masters degree in Engineering
    --- Root Cause Analysis Incident Investigation Training
    --- Oilfield services operational and technical experience
    --- API Product Standard knowledge
    --- Failure Mode, Effects and Critically Analysis (FMEAC), 5Why/Fishbone RCA experience
