Title:
Sr. Human Factors Engineer
This position will be within the Human Factors and System
Management team, which supports the Habitability and Human Factors
Branch at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. This team
provides research, analysis, evaluation and usability testing of
hardware and software crew interfaces for cockpits, habitats,
spacesuits, and equipment. This includes computer displays and
controls, workstation systems, and other types of crew interfaces.
The candidate will support Gateway Habitation and Logistics Output
(HALO) project. Activities consist of providing support to the
design and development of the human-to-system interfaces, including
requirements interpretation and verification planning, task
analysis, human error analysis, and iterative crew
evaluations.Specific Duties include:--- Provide human systems
expertise and support to the design and development of
human-to-system interfaces in an integrated and collaborative
fashion, supporting design, development, and preparation of
deliverables.--- Conduct task analysis - system and component
level.--- Perform human error analysis by identifying potential
sources of human error and actions to mitigate sources of human
error through design recommendations.--- Conduct Human-in-the-Loop
(HITL) testing by developing test plans, coordinating with
facilities, collaborating with subject matter experts, conducting
the data collection and analysis, and delivering presentations to
program management throughout the design lifecycle.--- Provide
human factors consulting services to include design, prototyping,
surveys/interviews, heuristic evaluation, cognitive walkthroughs,
and/or usability testing of human-system interfaces.--- Provide
verification planning and execution for usability, workload,
anthropometry, range of motion, strength, etc.--- Support technical
reviews such Critical Design Review
(CDR).EDUCATION/EXPERIENCERequired:Candidate must have a minimum of
a master's degree in human factors engineering, ergonomics,
industrial engineering or closely related technical discipline with
8 years of related experience. The candidate must have experience
in human-centered design principles, task analysis, human error
analysis, and especially verification HITL testing.Desired:Prior
experience with NASA, ISS, Orion, or related work is desired as
well.SKILLS/TRAININGRequired:A successful candidate will have
excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work
successfully in a multidisciplinary team as well as flexibility to
adapt quickly to changing requirements. The qualified applicant
must also have excellent oral and written communication skills,
both formal and informal.Desired:Candidate should have the ability
to effectively interact with customers at all levels and
successfully collaborate across disciplines, laboratories or
agencies. Experience with spacecraft layout and crew workstation
design and evaluation is desired.Familiarity with industry
standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1472, NASA-STD-3001) is a plus.Relocation
