Delivering superior subsurface knowledge has been identified by Hess' Executive Committee as a critical enabler to maximize shareholder value and to become the industry's best performing energy investment. This position is central to the organization and supports all internal assets teams. The successful candidate will be regarded as a reference within the organization on Reservoir Engineering matters. ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES The job responsibilities are focused on delivering asset support on a broad range of reservoir management problems including field development optimization, production optimization, incremental development opportunity identification, enhanced oil recovery evaluation, etc. Additionally, the Sr. Advisor in Reservoir Engineering will provide Technical Assurance support for the Production and Exploration Leadership Teams. As such, the successful candidate will be able to collaborate effectively with other key functions of the organization such as Reserves, Geoscience, Production, Operations, Drilling, Completions, Facilities and Economics. Some collaborations with external partners will be required for this position. A significant technical component of the role will involve building, using and reviewing reservoir simulation models to support business decisions. The fields under study will range from conventional offshore to unconventional onshore fields. To be successful, the candidate will need robust experience in reservoir simulation, encompassing green and brown field development and associated workflows. Additionally, the position requires a demonstrated capability in areas such as fluid characterization and SCAL.The successful candidate will be flexible in how they approach problems: they should be comfortable using analogues, analytical models, numerical models and data-driven models. Programming skills in a scripting language will enable the candidate to apply more creativity and automation to their work and will be regarded as a significant plus. Finally, as an experienced reservoir engineer, the candidate will demonstrate competencies in classical reservoir engineering skills as well as an understanding of closely associated disciplines such as production engineering and geosciences. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Asset experience: The ideal candidate will have a diverse experience covering;
    • Conventional and unconventional reservoirs
    • Onshore and offshore, including Gulf of Mexico
    • All stages of a field development: exploration, appraisal, green field development planning, brown field management
    • Various recovery mechanisms: primary depletion, secondary (e.g. waterflood) and Enhanced Oil Recovery (e.g. miscible gas) projects
    • Operated and non-operated assets
    • Reservoir Management processes: Demonstrated ability to execute and manage key reservoir management processes including:
      • Reserves estimation
      • Field development planning
      • Mature field optimization (surveillance, infill and workover opportunity identification and execution)
      • Integrated reservoir modeling including history matching, uncertainty evaluation, field development planning, and opportunity identification
      • Ability to review and interpret PVT reports, tune an equation of state to experiments, create a compositional or black-oil fluid description.
      • Experience with a range of fluid systems, including black and volatile oils, dry gas and gas condensate.
      • Experience with both conventional and unconventional fluid systems
      • Volumetric estimates, recovery factor estimates with analogues, material balance, DCA and type curve analysis
      • Pressure/Rate Transient analysis
      • Software competencies:
        • Proficiency in Reservoir Simulation (SLB Eclipse - or equivalent)
        • Proficiency in a fluid characterization package (e.g. Calsep PVTSim )
        • Proficiency in Pressure/Rate Transient Analysis package (PTA: Kappa Saphire -, RTA: S&P Global Harmony -, or equivalent)
        • Familiarity with geomodelling (SLB Petrel - or equivalent)
        • Familiarity with production systems modeling (Petroleum Experts Prosper - & Gap - or equivalent) Education, Training & Certifications: -
          • A BSc in Petroleum Engineering (or equivalent) is required; a graduate degree with a specialization in Reservoir Engineering is a plus
          • Minimum 15 years of experience in Reservoir Engineering with at least 10 years in an operating company
          • Deep, free thinker with ability to find creative solutions to engineering problems
          • Excellent communication skills - can effectively explain technical subjects at all levels, and deliver recommendations to senior executives as well as provide clear guidance to technical staff; strong influencing capabilities
          • Works well in a collaborative environment; shares best practices and strives to develop and cultivate trusted relationships with key stakeholders
