For more information about Hess Corporation, please visit our website at Hess.com . - POSITION SUMMARY The Drilling Engineer Advisor position is based in Houston, Texas and will be part of an integrated technical team reporting to the Director of Drilling & Completions and Exploration Operations. The individual will have primary accountability to undertake both FEED along with detailed well planning and execution activities for Hess' exploration portfolio in the Gulf of Mexico. The individual will also have the requisite wells pedigree to conduct review and assurance activities across our portfolio of producing assets when required. - ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Actively work with EHS to comply with SEMS program in all phases of well planning/construction. Ensure all applicable actions from Safety Alerts are captured in Drilling Programs. Make regular visits to rig site/service company facilities as required for Pre-Spud Meetings, Equipment Verifications, Site Visits/Audits . Engage necessary support from Central Function personnel to gain Technical Assurance on all critical aspects of well design. Remain at the forefront of new and developing technologies to recommend advancements to improve EHS, performance, and reduce costs. Maintain Action Tracker I Risk Register throughout project; ensure close out of actions by required due date. Support Peer Reviews/Assists.

  • Compile Data Support Package and present to Gate Keeper.
  • Ensure WDX Stage Deliverables are completed and signed off at the end of each Phase (ref. WDX Road Map).
  • Coordinate DWoP (Drill Well on Paper) meetings as part of wells planning process.
  • Participate in Pre-Spud. Develop high level Project Schedule for wells/ project jointly with Ops Geologist) and regularly communicate WDX requirements to Subsurface Team and other Stake Holders.
  • Ensure well cost and time estimates are compiled meeting the guidelines of HESS Well Cost Estimating standards and supported with suitable benchmark data.
  • Document in Well Cost Memo Drilling and Completion Uncertainty Statement.
  • Ensure wells cost tracking process is supported by Well Site Drilling Engineers and accuracy maintained throughout well execution phase.
  • Ensure lessons learned are captured and implemented throughout project and documented in EOWR (End of Well Report).
  • Ensure EOWR is compiled and ready for sign off within two months of well suspension. Organize AAR's for each hole section, Post Well Reviews following rig release.
  • Effectively implement design stage work in planning and operational execution.
  • Prepare and plan all well construction activities (drilling, casing installation, cementing, coring, wireline evaluation) in compliance with Hess and BSEE, following Well Basis of Design work (casing design, drilling fluids, cement, directional), and ultra-deepwater drillship specifications.
  • Preparation of BSEE permits. Prepare Drilling Program. Conduct final drill string selection with consideration for torque and drag, hydraulics, slip-crush, fishability, shearability, cementing operations, and rig specifications, inspection criteria. Select bottom hole assemblies, bits, and reamers.
  • Support drilling superintendent during well execution by performing required engineering calculations, equipment selection, procedures, investigations, contingency planning, and reporting. Identify planning and operational risks and mitigation controls.
  • Prepare well suspension plans and relief well planning. Prepare well handover to completion/production engineering.
  • Responsible for supervision non-direct subordinates including less experienced peers, Wellsite Drilling Engineers, and Service Company Personnel.
  • Provide technical and commercial input into ITT's and Tender Evaluations, and contractor management Ensure equipment deliveries are being tracked against agreed schedule . QUALIFICATIONS Experience: - Experience must include all the following:
    • 10 years of Deepwater Drilling Engineering experience with an operator of which at least 5 years should be in the Gulf of Mexico.
    • Bit, reamer, and bottom hole assembly selection
    • Drill string design including consideration for slip crushing
    • Torque and drag, hydraulics, drilling fluids
    • Directional well planning
    • Performance of full probabilistic cost estimates
    • Preparation of APDs and drilling programs. -
    • Applicants must also have some experience in cement selection and execution including shallow nitrogen foam cementing and application of light weight slurries; managing drilling hazards including pressure regressions and tar; large bore and high-capacity subsea wellheads and associated tooling
    • Deepwater MPD experience is preferred. Education, Training & Certifications: - Master's Degree in Engineering and 10 years of experience in the job offered or in a related job or a bachelor's degree in Engineering and 13 years of experience in the job offered or in a related job. - The -Hess -Way of Working -refers to competencies considered absolute pre-requisites for success.
