directing the activities required to meet the sterile instrument
and surgical equipment processing needs of the entire Memorial

QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree in Health Scienceor
related field required Master's degree
preferredLicenses/Certifications:* Certified Sterile Processing and
Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by the Certification Board for
Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)or* Certified Registered
Central Service Technician (CRCST) by the International Association
of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)
preferredor* CNOR preferredExperience / Knowledge / Skills:* Eight
(8) years of experience involving sterilization of instruments,
equipment and suppliesor equivalent time as a Registered Nurse in
an operating roomor relevant experience in an operating room*
Minimum of three (3) years of progressive management experience

Hermann.Principal Accountabilities* Develops specific departmental
goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the
strategic plan and vision of the organization.* Collects and
reports on data concerning instrument distribution, loss and
replacement.* Manages staff relations including performance
management, staff satisfaction and conflict management. May perform
and oversee processes such as scheduling, recruitment, payroll and
employee engagement.* Monitors departmental budgets, regulatory
compliance, departmental contracts, and vendor relations.* Overall
responsibility for management and direction of Sterile Processing
and equipment distribution operations for the entire System.
Provides continuous monitoring, support and direction for
departments to achieve strategic objectives. * Responsible to
ensure accurate assessment and determination of equipment needs for
the sites. Utilizing the Instrument Tracking System, ensures
accurate ordering and maintenance of OR instrumentation for new
trays and replacement instruments.* Serves as member of the
Infection Control, Value Analysis Committee, Code Blue Committee
and activities of the OR/CS/SPD Group.* Responsibility for budget
forecasting. Maintains and monitors the revenue budget for assigned
Sterile Processing cost centers.* Review expense reports and
provides summaries and justifications to approval authority. Works
with clinical department and subsidiaries when needed, especially
during the budgetary process to ensure that appropriate equipment,
supplies and equipment have been budgeted for patient care.*
Assists the Surgical Services leaders in developing strategies to
contain and reduce cost.* Oversees sterile processing staff and
associates to drive performance. Advises Senior Leaders on sterile
processing issues. Collaborates with sterile processing managers
and supervisors in the network to establish a certification prep
training program for associates. Coordinates reviews with
departments to maintain positive working relationships as well as
quality patient care.* Reviews and further develops required
standards of such governing bodies as AORN, AAMI, FDA, AIC and
JCAHO, and incorporates standards into departmental policies and
procedures. Maintains appropriate Quality Assurance data and
statistics. Works with the Operating Room and other areas to
establish a workflow for OR Case Carts, Sterile Trays, Pumps,
Specialty Beds and other equipment necessary for patient care in
accordance with established policies and procedures.* Ensures safe
care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial
Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary
specifications including time management, supply management,
productivity and quality of service.* Promotes individual
professional growth and development by meeting requirements for
mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports
department-based goals which contribute to the success of the
organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less
experienced staff.* Other duties as assigned.
