Position Description The Field Manager organizes and directs the field services operations and personnel management of subordinate staff positions. Major responsibilities include overseeing the investigation of complaints related to air quality, water quality and solid/hazardous waste. Additionally, the Field Manager organizes and directs compliance inspections of permitted and unpermitted facilities. The Field Manager is responsible for assuring timely report completion and appropriate citations of environmental law. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Responsible for overall recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of the employees of the Field Services section * Directs investigation of complaints related to air quality, water quality and solid/hazardous waste * Directs compliance inspections of permitted and unpermitted facilities * Ensure monitoring and testing equipment used in the field is maintained * Distribute workload among staff for optimal performance * Select continuing education programs to be attended by staff * Requisition necessary equipment and supplies * Oversee development of standard operating procedures * Responsibilities include other duties as assigned including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event Harris County is an Equal Opportunity Employer https://hrrm.harriscountytx.gov/Pages/EqualEmploymentOpportunityPlan.aspx If you need special services or accommodations, please call (713) 274-5445 or email ADACoordinator@bmd.hctx.net Requirements EDUCATION: * Bachelor of Science in natural science, environmental or technology discipline from an accredited university is required. A Masters in a relevant discipline is desirable. EXPERIENCE: * Five years of verifiable supervision/management experience in a related field. * Must have 40 hour Hazwoper Certification KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES: * Must have demonstrable ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats * The incumbent should have skills in establishing and maintaining effective and collaborative relationships with persons and groups across a variety of disciplines. * Must have demonstrable ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats NOTE:Qualifying education, experience, knowledge and skills must be documented on your job application. Preferences General Information WORK ENVIRONMENT: * Office and field work required, including industrial facilities * Routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects TYPICAL HOURS OF WORK: * 8AM - 5PM * Monday - Friday * Evenings, weekends and holidays (If Necessary) Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and drug screen.
