The Director, Philanthropy plays an integral role by participating
in all fundraising activities including donor relations, grant
proposals, direct mail appeals, and special events, and by
providing research and administrative support to the Development
Office. The Director, Philanthropy coordinates and participates in
strategic development planning and activities, interfacing with
senior management, and maximizes both annual unrestricted income
and targeted support for strategic organizational and project
development priorities. This position oversees the Grants
Coordinator/Development Associate and works closely with the
Manager, Marketing & Communications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Overseeing research on prospective corporations, foundations,
individuals, religious institutions, and government entities.
Oversee the preparation and management of grant requests to private
donors, assisting with writing and coordination as assigned by the

Oversee the funding schedule and deadlines calendar, ensuring

Maintain a portfolio of individual donors (most typically those who
give annual gifts of $5,000 or less) and foundation/corporate
donors (avg. grant of $50,000 or less) and develop/implement
strategies for cultivation and stewardship.
Oversee the processing of donations, reconciling with the Finance
Department, and preparation of acknowledgement letters and other

Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Nonprofit development experience.
Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills,
coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Flexibility, i.e. the ability to adjust to differences among
funding organizations to attain results.
A strong professional presence that demonstrates skill and
authenticity, thereby instilling confidence and trust in corporate,
foundation, governmental, and other nonprofit representatives.
The ability to grow into a leader, as well as be an effective team

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as
proficiency in fundraising database/management software, such as
Raiser's Edge, eTapestry, or GiftMaker Pro.
Ability to organize and prioritize work and adjust to shifting

Duties will require the regular use of telephones, computers, fax
