Basic Function

The Manager for Life Cycle Metrics is a newly established role in the Global Sustainability function. It will play a vital role in the development of a corporate-wide strategy for the use of life cycle metrics and tools to support our sustainability goals. This role will collaborate with business leads and other functions to drive an approach for life cycle metrics that enables communication of the sustainability benefits of our products. This role is part of the Sustainability Pillar on Sustainable Solutions, and will develop the life cycle metrics strategy in support of our overall goals for portfolio assessment. It is also anticipated that this role will develop and lead a small team of LCA practitioners that will be responsible for the deliver of the LCAs and PCFs for the business.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Play a vital role in development of the product life cycle metrics and tools strategy in alignment with the Corporate Sustainability strategy.
  • Collaborate with business and business sustainability leads, Research & development, Product Safety, procurement, IT Sustainability Strategy, Communications, and within the corporate sustainability team to lead the development a roadmap for the application of life cycle metrics and product carbon footprinting for the company, including prioritization of activities and change management activities.
  • Identify the principles, guidelines, and associated tools for product sustainability-related product metrics to support overall business and sustainability goals, including anticipated social life cycle metrics (i.e. handprint of products) and life cycle impact of our products to support different business needs.
  • Act as the focal point to support business prioritization for their product life cycle metrics needs and support their needs to communicate the sustainability benefits to their stakeholders.
  • Be the subject matter expert to provide the overview and alignment of our roadmap to standards such as PEF, PCF guidance from TfS, SBTi, and future regulatory reporting requirements, etc.
  • Lead the development of an LCA database to have one central source of information on LYB LCAs and PCFs. Support the business in developing and maintaining a dashboard to monitor market trends / customer requests on sustainability-related topics specific to product life cycle
  • Participates in the discussions on the Portfolio Sustainability Assessment tool to ensure synergies with product-related metrics, and contributes to global sustainability strategy development.
  • Represents LyondellBasell in relevant LCA and product sustainability metrics industry association discussions.
  • This role reports to the Program Manager for Sustainable Solutions. It is anticipated that the Manager for Life Cycle Metrics will develop and lead a team (2-3 people) of LCA practitioners that will deliver LCAs and PCF, and provide oversight to these efforts.

    • Degree in chemical engineering, sciences including materials, environmental, or its equivalent in business management related discipline would be preferred.
      Work Experience:
      • At least 5+ Years of relevant work experience in sustainability, product life cycle management and/or in operational functions
      • Skilled in sustainability objectives into tangible product-related metrics roadmap. Experience in the product and process environmental areas is preferred.
      • Well versed in LCA standards, methods, environmental labels, product sustainability assessments and product certifications, and regulations. Ability to translate that knowledge into realistic initiatives.
      • Expert knowledge of life cycle assessment software
      • People management experience a plus
