The Post Oak Hotel is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to join our hotel team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exhibit conduct in accordance with all legal, Federal and State laws and regulations, and The Post Oak and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Consistently deliver positive, courteous and professional guest service in all interactions with guests, visitors, vendors and fellow employees.
  • Supervise, assign jobs, and ensure timely completion of projects by maintenance mechanics.
  • Perform routine field inspections on-site and at off-site locations.
  • Prepare technical reports and maintains logbooks as required.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of applicable fire, health, safety, and environmental standards as well as relevant state, local, and national codes.
  • React in a timely manner to emergency situations.
  • Coordinate maintenance and modification projects with appropriated department to ensure minimal guest interruption.
  • To oversee the supervision of maintenance and repair at The Post Oak facilities and equipment.
  • Recruit, select, train, coach, counsel, appraise, recognize and retain direct reports who consistently perform actions and behaviors that reinforce excellence in business operations and guest service.
  • Stay abreast of current trends and practices within area of responsibility and communicate pertinent information to management, peers, direct reports and employees as appropriate.
  • Promote positive public/employee relations at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment within area of responsibility.
  • Safeguard the confidential information of all employee, department and company records.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ensuring responsible alcohol service by discreetly notifying appropriate management of concerns and observations.
  • Ensure prompt and discrete notification to senior management and/or the Ethics Hotline of any observation of illegal acts and/or internal ethics violations.
  • Establish and maintain a Forbes five star service culture.
  • Represent Director of Engineering in their absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    • Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature generally is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10 -F) and kitchens (+110 -F), possibly for one hour or more.
    • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day. Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
    • The worker is subject to noise: there is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the surrounding noise level.
    • The worker is subject to vibration: exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
    • The worker is subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
    • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
    • The worker is subject to oils: there is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
    • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks occasionally.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
    • Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
    • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
    • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates.
    • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near and color vision and depth perception.
    • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary tools and equipment. Must be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed.

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
      The position will directly or indirectly supervise the following positions:

      • Carpenter
      • Painters
      • Plumbers
      • Electricians
      • Laundry Mechanic
      • HVAC Engineers
      • Kitchen Mechanic
      • Contractors
        QUALIFICATIONS:

        • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays is required.
        • Ability to deliver a service level which creates an atmosphere that makes our guests want to return, giving each guest a positive, memorable experience.
        • Commitment to routinely go above and beyond in the accomplishment of position responsibilities in an effort to play a role in the achievement of organizational goals.
        • Must present an image of excitement and enthusiasm, while being able to project a professional appearance and demeanor.
        • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
        • Display strong work ethic and teamwork.

          EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

          • High School diploma, trade school certificates preferred.
          • Hotel maintenance preferred.
          • 3 years of experience in a hotel environment preferred.
