Registered Nurse- Quality Management Coordinator - Houston, Texas

This position as a Quality Management Coordinator is for the Rehabilitation and Extended Care Line at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.

The incumbent will assist the facility Quality Manager and top management as required, in policy review, formulation and communication, implementation, and evaluation of the accreditation process. The incumbent develops programs to ensure that quality provisions are planned, developed and implemented to identify, prevent and correct unsatisfactory conditions and elements which influence the regulatory correctness and responsiveness of transactions and services. The incumbent tailors quality program management strategies and techniques to fit the operations, culture and interests of the installation's management and staff and develops policy guidance, motivational materials and information to facilitate participation in important program initiatives. The incumbent is responsible for identifying areas of operations that are not in compliance and recommends
methods or techniques to correct deficiencies; develops, advises, and interprets policies, procedures, and practices to ensure agency standards are met; and coordinates with varied disciplines to evaluate and monitor patient care.

1.a. Effectively manages assigned resources and identifies creative strategies to increase efficiency within
programs, the service, and the medical center.

b. Self-directed in collaborating with colleagues to review staffing and plan strategies together to solve
c. Analyzes staffing patterns for methods to keep overtime costs down.

2. Initiates, implements, and evaluates trial equipment.
3. Establishes patient care priorities based on resident needs that ensures patient care can be delivered in a safe,
efficient, and cost effective manner.
4. Ensures staff comply with infection control practices, such as hand washing, wearing of appropriate personal
protective equipment, and cleaning of patient care equipment between patients.
5. Demonstrates responsibility for environment of care (EOC) within the managed area and is recognized and
sought out by others to share their unique knowledge and skills. Ensures clean, safe environment. EOC issues
include, but are not limited to:
a. Medications secure. Medication room and Omnicell are clean, including pill crusher. Medication carts
wiped after use, No expired medications.
b. Medication refrigerator and nutrition refrigerator temperatures and cleaning logs are checked and
recorded per policy.
c. No eating or drinking or storing of such containers in patient care areas, including nurses' stations.
d. No clutter on unit. Food not stored in staff refrigerators; only food for the tour of duty placed in staff
refrigerators. Refrigerator, microwave, and coffee pot clean; cleaning log completed weekly.
e. Emergency equipment (i.e., crash cart) is checked daily per policy and the log completed.
f. ensures other EOC issues, such as items on the PCS EOC Checklist, are enforced.
6. Ensures staff comply with safe work practices and ensures compliance with accreditation standards. Complies with safety rules and regulations for safe job
performance and fire protection. Ensures staff practice safe body mechanics, uses mechanical devices, and/or
requests help when needed in moving, lifting, or turning patients to prevent injury to patient, self or others.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
