Associate Director of Construction Startup & Commissioning
(Hybrid Work Schedule) Provides strategic leadership in the areas
of startup and commissioning for a rolling portfolio of wind,
solar, and storage projects mitigating risk by proactively
identifying, assessing and addressing potential issues. Provides
tactical leadership and strategic direction to a team committed to
ensuring a smooth transition from construction to operational phase
and confirming that all operational requirements are met. Develops
strategic programs and tools that provide direction for projects
during construction through handoff to the Operations team. Ensures
that safety, quality, cost, environmental, landowner, and legal
requirements are achieved or exceeded while accomplishing project
objectives. - -Main Accountabilities: -
- Provides strategic leadership and direction for team
responsible for the startup and commissioning of new wind, solar,
and storage projects from mechanical completion through final
handover to Operations
- Directly manages and oversees the Sr. HV Commissioning Manager
and team as well as the Sr. Non-HV Commissioning Manager and
team
- Capable of performing hands-on management role for some
individual projects during construction, as needed
- Coordinates various stakeholders needed to work collaboratively
on project startup and commissioning activates
- Develops effective relationships with internal departments,
contractors, suppliers, landowners, and other stakeholders to
foster collaborative work
- Facilitates and encourages the smooth integration of
development, engineering, procurement, pre-construction, and
construction execution functions for priority projects
- Ensures the overall success of project execution by
consistently implementing construction management tools for each
assigned project -
- Understands implications of various technical options and able
to influence engineering designs to achieve optimal solutions
- Provides leadership during project construction activities,
ensuring safety, quality, schedule, cost, environmental, landowner,
and other project requirements are met or exceeded
- Studies and understands cost and schedule considerations that
arise during the startup phase of a project and works with
construction PM's and PMO to develop solutions
- Provides tactical support to Construction Directors, Project
Construction Managers, and Construction Site Managers and solicits
input from staff at all levels of the organization
- Establishes effective and supportive relationships with
colleagues
- Reinforces a team approach throughout the enterprise, both on
projects and internal initiatives
- Effectively communicates relevant information to superiors
- Champions change and effectively manages the implementation of
new ideas

2-4 direct reports ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: Required Education :
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management
Preferred Education: Master's degree in Engineering or Master of
Business Administration preferred Required Professional Experience:
10+ years in the utility scale energy sector including renewable
energy or industrial construction or capital project management
Required Licensure or Certification: Professional Engineering
licensure preferred Required Knowledge:
- Advanced understanding of construction methods and challenges
facing large projects including c ontract management, procurement,
and supply chain management, environmental and building permitting,
and transportation logistics
- Advanced understanding of substation construction and equipment
from control house relays and communication equipment to
transformers, circuit breakers, switches and other yard
equipment
- Experience with various SCADA systems and the communication
channels that this equipment utilizes
- Experience with initial energization of MV and HV electrical
systems, LOTO and OTO's
- Telecommunication and fiber physical layer experience a
plus
- Experience working with various ISO and other grid
entities
- Basic knowledge of applicable industry standards and codes,
including Uniform Building Code (UBC), International Building Code
(IBC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), American Institute of
Steel Construction (AISC), Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute
(CRSI), National Fire Protection Association, (NFPA), and American
National Standards Institute (ANSI)
- Basic knowledge of land surveying methods and practices, aerial
photography and mapping (including UTM and NAD coordinate systems),
and geospatial references
- Ability to interpret documents produced in AutoCAD, GIS, and
other discipline-relevant software
- Understanding of Microsoft products and/or complementing
products preferred.
- Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication,

office environment.

across unpaved and rough surfaces when on wind farm sites. -

- Lifting: Ability to frequently lift items weighing up to 10
pounds and to occasionally lift items weighing between 20 and 40
pounds
- Climbing: o Ability to climb turbine towers up to 95 meters in
height approximately 5-10 times per year, or as needed o Weight,
including harness and tools, must be in accordance with the weight
limit as specified by the ANSI Fall Protection Standards.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to frequently perform physical tasks
including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting,
squatting, and reaching approximately 75% of the time while on wind
farm sites.
- Flexibility: Ability to frequently perform physical tasks
including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting,

farm sites.
- Vision: Ability to interpret and follow a variety of
