Since then, the agency has expanded to > 50 clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include: Adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, OB/GYN and maternity, dental, vision and behavioral health. Job Description The Sr. Director of Pharmacy-Clinical Operations will be responsible for overall operation and quality of the of the ambulatory clinical pharmacy services, including administrative, clinical, distributive, and technical activities of the Pharmacy Department in addition to oversight of pharmacy quality metrics. The role is pivotal to providing the support in creating a culture for value-based care, accountability, and shared responsibility to deliver maximum patient safety and quality of care. This supports the intention of creating value for payors to maximize incentives and partnerships as well as compliance with regulatory requirements including URAC for Specialty Pharmacy services. This leader will review processes and determine performance improvement initiatives as well as develop and implement new programs focused on closing medication use care gaps and increasing patient outcomes. Essential Functions

  • Oversees the Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Specialists (CPS) and Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Teams
  • Designs, implements and manages the pharmacy clinical programs and establishes collaborative practice agreements with providers for various disease state management
  • Provides clinical direction and support of Pharmacy including but not limited to ongoing clinical initiatives with respect to the cost effective and safe medication use process and performance improvement
  • Provides clinical and leadership skill development opportunities for the Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Team
  • Participates in formulary management, policy and procedure development and education across the healthcare system
  • Collaborate with Pharmacy Operations to expand business opportunities through clinical pharmacy programs
  • Strategically develops service initiatives to meet the demands of the future clinical pharmacy service growth
  • Ensures compliance with relevant regulatory and accreditation requirements by overseeing the Specialty Pharmacy program ensuring alignment with URAC regulatory requirements and serving as the Compliance Officer and Senior Clinical Staff Members
  • Oversees and participates in the Quality Management Committee (QMC)
    • Guides team members regarding QMC activities - Manages all clinical decision-making aspects of the Specialty Pharmacy Program - Provides guidance for clinical operational aspects of programs - Conducts periodic consultation with practitioners in the field - Oversees organizational objectives to have qualified clinicians accountable to the organization for decisions affecting patients - Remediates issues with unethical healthcare practices
      • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team leaders on drug utilization and population health management programs to promote overall health of the patient population
      • Supports quality initiatives and strategic clinical partnerships across the continuum to further the organization's mission, position the organization as the provider of choice, and improve the outcomes of populations served
      • Direct and coordinate the development and management of Pharmacy Residency Program for Ambulatory Care Services
      • Serves as a preceptor to students of affiliated schools of pharmacy and pharmacy residents (when available). Establishes methods to ensure quality outcomes through performance improvement activities
      • Optimizes use of information systems and technology; adopts and justifies appropriate clinical decision support systems, automation/barcoding for safety, and capture metrics to drive improvements in patient care and outcomes
      • Develops metrics and programs to ensure appropriate use of medications optimizing therapeutic outcomes, reduce drug-related problems and ensure cost-effective pharmacotherapy
      • Ensures compliances with regulatory and accreditation requirements
      • Provides oversight of clinical decision-making aspects of all programs
      • Performs other duties as assigned Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, & Training (minimum requirements)
        • Graduate of an accredited college/university of pharmacy (Pharm.D or B.S. with equivalent experience)
        • Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-1 & 2 Pharmacy Residency in Specialty or Pharmacy Administration OR equivalent experience
        • Valid license from the Board of Pharmacy of the State of Texas
        • 5 years of experience in Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Area required
        • 10 years of experience in pharmacy administration required
        • Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) or Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacists (BCACP) preferred
        • Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or Masters in Public Health (MPH) preferred
        • Experience in HIV/AIDs, Geriatrics, and/or Pediatrics, preferred Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)
          • Computer experience - Windows, Microsoft Word & Excel
          • Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize
          • Working knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and State/Federal laws governing medical services.
          • Administrative, management, or supervisory experience.
          • Exceptional leadership, mediation abilities, and multi-tasking skills required.
          • Strong commitment to customer service and excellence in healthcare.
          • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
          • Basic knowledge of statistics and graphical representation principles.
          • Significant knowledge and expertise in advanced pharmacy practice, specialty medication therapy management, and specialty evidence-based medicine in area appropriate for clinical assignments preferred.
