Work Shift: 7a-7p

Work Week: Work days vary between M-F with weekends as determined by needs of the service line programs. 40 hour work week; three 12hr shifts with one 4/hr shift

Job Summary

SICU seeking an experienced Critical Care Nurse to provide bedside care and assist with primary focus on the CV Program Service line and later other service line expansion to work day shift at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.

* At Houston Methodist, the Registered Nurse (RN) IV position is a licensed staff nurse who provides professional direct patient nursing care to a diverse patient population, in addition to being accountable for the care outcomes of a clinical population.
* This position is a clinical leader and scholar who functions as an organizational/system-level expert, aligning activities to achieve strategic initiatives and goals. Subscribing to Benner's model of clinical practice, the RN IV conducts nursing assessments, interventions, treatments, and documents care.
* This position leads and coordinates interprofessional activities focusing on clinical practice, education, research, and translating evidence into practice.
* Role modeling compassionate communication with patients, families and the interprofessional team, the RN IV position serves as patient and family advocate.
* This position assumes an advanced leadership role in analyzing systems to anticipate/reduce risk, improving patient safety/quality.
* Responsibilities for the RN IV position include leading unit and organizational/system activities, educating, mentoring and coaching staff in clinical and professional practice contributions, with the expectation to collaborate/manage/lead regional/national initiatives.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

* Five years clinical healthcare nursing experience
* Three years in specialty preferred
* Strong critical care experience preferred
* Minimum of 5 years direct cardiovascular critical care RN experience strongly preferred

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Nursing
* Master's degree preferred

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

* Texas RN license or temporary TX RN license, should obtain permanent license within 90 days. Compact license acceptable according to current Board of Nursing requirements.
* American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS
* Other credentials and certifications as defined by unit/service line
* American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC)-recognized certification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

* Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations as defined in orientation checklist and annual departmental competency checklist
* Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially regarding activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
* Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
* Demonstrates expertise in operating the electronic medical record
* Working knowledge of Microsoft products including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook
* Acts as effective change agent
* Uses therapeutic communication to establish a relationship with patients, families and interprofessional team to collaborate on the plan of care
* Strong assessment, organizational and problem-solving skill as evidenced by capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and role components
* Ability to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team and patients and their families
* Demonstrates proficient time management skills
* Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act
* Maintains level of professional contributions as defined in Clinical Career Path program guide.
