Job Description:

JOB SUMMARYTo maintain a functioning coordinated process to reduce risks of endemic and epidemic nosocomial infections in patients and healthcare workers in accordance with infection control policies and regulatory standards. The Infection Preventionist/Occupational Health Program Coordinator implements an effective hospital wide program in keeping with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC), Accrediting agencies, and other regulatory agencies and directs the functions of the Employee Health Program.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • License Registered Nurse in the State of Texas preferred
  • Masters of Public health or Medical Technologic accepted
  • Current BLS Certification required
  • Prior experience in coordinating an Infection Control and/or Occupational Health program preferred
  • Training/experience in project coordination and completion preferred.
  • Certification in Infection prevention and/or Occupational Health or obtain certification in one or both within 2 years of employment required.
    SkillsMust possess good interpersonal and communication skills, excellent observational skills, and advance knowledge in occupational health and/infection prevention. Must be able to demonstrate initiative in accomplishing responsibilities. Must use problem solving techniques. Establishes one's own daily work assignments based on responsibility and priority. OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE
    • Category I - exposure to bloodborne pathogens and/or other potentially infectious material, frequent exposure to chemical hazards, and potential exposure to radiation.
    • Category II - Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may encounter chemical hazards.
    • Category III - Office Environment.
      RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
      • Accepts accountability for the progress and development of the Organization's Infection Prevention and Occupational Health Programs.
      • Implements strategies to reduce risk and/or prevent nosocomial infection in patients, employees and visitors which includes the identification and control of clusters of nosocomial infections.
      • Maintains and promotes professional competence by participating in and organizing continuing education and other learning experiences relating to infection control and occupational health.
      • Oversees the implementation and monitoring of the employee health program and compliance to annual testing and or/vaccinations.
      • Serves as a resource for workers compensation claims and maintains pertinent employee health records.
      • Participates as an active member of the Safety Committee by assessing the safety and health hazards in the workplaces related to Infection Control and Occupational Health.
      • Participates and provides direct support to chapter lead in readiness activities and surveys for accreditation and licensure.
      • Shall maintain a log of incidents related to infections and communicable disease and shall report outcome of incidents to CQI Committee.
      • Maintains current knowledge of CDC, APIC, OSHA and State Regulations as they pertain to the Infection Control and Occupational Health Programs and modifies the programs according to updates.
      • Interfaces with the department of Health to ensure continuity of care, appropriate follow up, and control of reportable communicable disease.
      • Facilitates designated committee and sub-committee meetings by preparing agenda, reports, meeting minutes and distributes to appropriate departments and individuals.
      • Participates in professional organizations such as APIC or TSCIP. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

        • The employee must be able to life and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis and be able to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.
        • The employee must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
