APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED FROM: --All Persons Interested--Division:-- COVID-19 Response/Community Vaccine OutreachSection:--Director's OfficeWorkdays & Hours: MONDAY --- FRIDAY, 8:00 AM --- 5:00 PM* -- -- -- -- -- --*Subject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSHouston's Health Department is seeking a talented individual to perform basic nursing responsibilities and assists with health clinics and field, hospital, home or mobile unit activities under the supervision of a Division Manager, for the Clinic Operations duties may vary as follows for this position.CORE JOB DUTIES FOR LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE

  • Interviews patients and records their medical history using electronic health records; verifies medical history, screens immunization records.
  • Administers and issues medications and vaccines according to approved standing delegation orders.
  • Administers injections and skin tests; takes blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration and other testing.
  • Assists with patient follow-up; assists nurse or physician as directed.
  • Assists in compiling statistical data for reports.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and medications and cleanliness of the office/clinic.
  • May make referrals and assist with emergency response activities.
  • Assists to ensure positive outcomes in all clinical service areas (i.e. productivity, wait time decrease).
  • Participates in quality improvement activities including record reviews, chart audits, skills assessments, and competency evaluationsADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES FOR COVID-19 Community Vaccine Outreach
    • Serves on a community-based vaccine strike team
    • Administers COVID-19 vaccines
    • Conducts registration at COVID-19 vaccines sites
    • Will need to drive to various locations throughout Harris County
    • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours including nights and weekends
    • May be reassigned to other clinical services as needed
    • May be assigned to transport vaccines
    • Other duties as assignedWORKING CONDITIONSThe position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or record boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.Job Requirements:MINIMUM EDUCATION--Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate and graduation from a school of vocational or practical nursing.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:One (1) year of nursing experience as a licensed vocational nurse is required.Two years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant in a public health or related clinical setting may be substituted for the experience requirement.MINIMUM LICENSE / CERTIFICATION:Must be licensed or eligible to practice as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas. --CPR certification required. License and CPR certification must be maintained and current for continued employment.--**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.******Experience with COVID-19 related activities.--Able to work untraditional hours (after 5pm) and flextime if needed.Experience using Microsoft Excel or other software for data collection and analysis strongly preferred. Experience working in multiple data systems for data entry and generation of reports strongly preferred. Skilled in interpretation of descriptive statistics strongly preferred (e.g., mean, range). Experience explaining analysis results to lay audience preferred.SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIREDNone.
