ABA Therapist - Part Time Afternoon

Description:Unlocking The Spectrum (UTS) provides year round therapeutic intervention for children with autism based on the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). UTS provides an atmosphere where children, clinicians and families can interact and support each other. By expecting the highest levels of professionalism from all team members, UTS can achieve its mission of ensuring that each child can reach their full potential at home and in a variety of settings outside of therapy.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the ABA Therapist:

  • Implements skill-building programming and maintenance programs as prescribed by the client's treatment team
  • Implements client-specific behavior reduction strategies, as prescribed by the behavior intervention plan, effectively utilizing both antecedent and consequence strategies
  • Demonstrates effective use of ABA techniques, including Discrete Trial Training, shaping procedures, chaining procedures, Natural Environment Training and Incidental Teaching, makes effective use of reinforcement procedures, and effectively utilizes and fades prompts in all teaching conditions
  • Assists child with daily self-help skills
  • Engages child in interactive and meaningful play during breaks and downtime. Keeps breaks to an appropriate length and captures and contrives opportunities to teach in the natural environment
  • Maintains daily data collection as directed, updates graphs and data sheets as required, creates data sheets as directed
  • Ensures that child's work space is neat and orderly and that materials that are not being used are sent home with parents or put back into general use for staff and other children
  • Ensures needed materials are available, creates materials as directed, and notifies supervisor of necessary materials that are not currently available
  • Attends and participates in parent team meetings, assessments, Therapist meetings, trainings and other meetings as requested by supervisors
  • Works collaboratively with other members of child's treatment team and family
  • Communicates with team regarding all developments, problems or concerns as needed and responds appropriately to feedback
  • Adheres to diet, supplementation and medication protocols, per parent instructions
  • Assures Parent Communication Log is updated daily with appropriate information
  • Refers parents to appropriate staff member for non-therapy questions or questions beyond the scope of the ABA Therapist position
  • Maintains therapy areas and materials for the benefit of the whole organization. Returns materials to their proper place with all parts and accessories intact, turns electronics off after use and cleans up after client and self
  • Demonstrates responsible and respectful use of the property of families and UTS
  • Provides and maintains an environment free of emotional, physical and sexual abuse and reports any incidents or suspicions of abuse or neglect to Director
  • Ensures safety of clients, self and others at all times
  • Refrains from any use of cell phones, internet and email that is not related to UTS duties
  • Completes and submits required documentation in a timely manner (mileage tracking form, progress notes, billing sheets and time sheets)
  • Requests time off in advance (minimum of two weeks), calls-out sick to the appropriate person in accordance with current attendance policy
  • Reports to work on time or notifies supervisor and others as needed when tardiness will occur
  • Acts as a positive role model for all staff, families and children working with UTS
  • Maintains client confidentiality per UTS policy and HIPAA Privacy Regulations
  • Adheres to all UTS policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Employee must be able to perform all physical duties related to the position, including ability to lift and maneuver over 50lbs, manage aggressive episodes, perform physical crisis intervention techniques, etc.. Requirements:
    • Bachelor's Degree in ABA or related field is preferred, but not required
    • Experience working with children with autism is preferred, but not required
    • Positive team player and energetic professional
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills along with the ability to manage multiple tasks
    • Good judgment and creative thinking skills
    • Demonstrates creativity, flexibility and the ability to prioritize and problem-solve
    • Ability to communicate appropriately under varying conditions (considers the environment, people present)
    • Exercises discretion in private and sensitive matters
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Must meet agency driving insurability and background check requirements.
