The Nurse Manager assumes 24-hour responsibility for planning,
supervising, and evaluating the care of patients to ensure
comprehensive and continuous care for each patient-family in the
Medical Surgical unit.
Reports to the Unit Director and provides overall direction for
employees, 24 hour accountability and assists with budgetary
Assists with hiring, training, directing, development and
evaluating of staff.
Assists with development and implementation of policies and
procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health
services in a unit.
Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases and other actions to
ensure compliance with budget guidelines.
Promotes, supports, and facilitates the delivery of compassionate,
evidence based nursing care to create an optimal patient
Supervises the total nursing care of all patients on the unit(s) of
service and gives the appropriate direction to each staff member to
provide quality patient care.
Maintains timely and open communication with all members of nursing
personnel, medical staff, multi-disciplinary team, and other
Evaluates personnel, assesses environment, and determines
priorities for care in order to plan, implement, and evaluate
outcomes of care.
Knowledge of appropriate regulatory agency standards to include but
not limited to JCAHO, OSHA, and others as applicable.
3-5 years acute care nursing experience required
2 years nursing experience in the Medical Surgical Unit
2 years nursing experience in progressive leadership role in
Associates Degree of Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
Bachelors and-or Masters Degree Nursing highly preferred
Current State Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
Other credentials and certifications as defined by unit-service
American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC)-recognized
certification within one year of eligibility
HMH - ANCC- recognized leadership certification within one year of
