Job Description:

We are searching for an Art Therapist - someone who works well in a fast-paced hematology/oncology setting. In this position, you'll implement and provide art therapy to help meet the emotional, developmental, and social needs of children with cancer and blood disorders in a healthcare setting. You will provide opportunities for children to gain a sense of mastery, offer learning experiences, and encourage family and peer interaction.

  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assess and prioritize patient and family needs
  • Conduct formal and informal developmental assessments of psychosocial needs of patients and families as evidenced by documentation in the medical record
  • Assess coping styles of patients and families during introduction of service to develop a therapeutic plan of care that incorporates patient and family needs, interests, and abilities
  • Collaborate with patient and family to develop long and short-term goals and document this in the patient chart
  • Provide developmentally-appropriate environments and activities for patients and determine the benefits of group vs. individual therapeutic interventions
  • Provide interventions that increase emotional support to patients and families during identified stress points in order to facilitate adaptive coping
  • Promote a safe environment within the hospital and communicate the benefits of art therapy to the healthcare team
  • Develop and promote volunteer programming to strengthen arts therapy programming
  • Review the program yearly with leader and The Faris Foundation to determine process or program improvements based on the best available evidence
  • Works collaboratively with Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center and The Faris Foundation to generate goodwill for programs and services
    QualificationsBeing fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children's, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
