Job DescriptionTownsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a full-time Registered Nurse to work in Pre-Op at our hospital in Humble, TX! Responsible for admitting the patient to the clinical area and providing nursing care to the pre-operative patient, as well as, developing a nursing care plan specifically designed for the individual patient. The staffing of the Hospital is based on a teamwork concept. • Ensures the pre-operative area has a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients at all times
• Ensures supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order
• Admits the patient to the unit and prepares him/her for the scheduled procedure
• Makes initial assessment and determines the nursing needs of the patient, communicates additional discharge needs when applicable (transportation, durable medical equipment)
• Explains nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety
• Identifies patient's physical and mental status
• Monitors the patient's medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist
• Reports any important health history facts to the operating room nurse
• Gives patients and family members emotional support as necessary
• Documents patient care delivered, accurately in the medical record
• Implements doctor's orders in a timely and accurate manner
• Plans for routine events and anticipates/prevents and manages/evaluate emergent situations
• Initiate patient education to ensure that both patient and family, are educated on procedures and medications. Develop individualized care plans based on each individual patient's condition.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Nursing care for the pre-operative patient
  • Operation of vital sign monitors
  • Assessment skills
  • A basic understanding of nursing diagnosis
  • Principles of Standard Precautions
  • IV TherapyMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Our facility is subject to the CMS vaccine mandate. You must be fully vaccinated before you may begin employment with us. While our company currently does not have a vaccine mandate, we're obligated to enforce any applicable mandates under federal law.
    • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing or vocational school
    • Registered Nurse (active and unencumbered license) in the State of Texas
    • BLS, PALS and ACLS (required)
