Mission Statement The mission of The University of Texas M. D.

employees and the public. Summary The primary purpose of the
Medical Assistant position is to acts as lead technical assistant
in preparing patients for medical visits and procedures. Under
general supervision in an outpatient clinical setting, assists with
administrative services/ patient reception, assists with direct
patient care, and performs specialized medical procedures of a
routine nature, as dictated by established clinical protocol to
include EKGs, vital signs, glucometer, etc. Medical Assistant
opportunity in the Clinical Translational Research Center (CTRC).
Ideal candidate will have at least one year of Medical Assistant
experience. Experience in a hospital clinical setting preferred and
performing 12-lead EKGs is a plus. Shift: 12pm-10:30pm with
rotating weekends and holidays Key Functions Direct Assistance to
Patients: Under the direction of the registered nurse, assists with
patient care procedures: Monitors and record patients' vital signs.
Monitors and record patient weight. Positions patients requested by
nurse or by patients. Cares for patients on isolation status. EKG
Performs 12-lead EKGs as ordered and as directed by the registered
nurse. Documents patient data and care given in both the physical
and electronic medical record. Maintains stocks of EKG supplies as
necessary. Clean equipment according to prescribed maintenance
schedules as directed. (IV pumps and EKG machine). Monitor
equipment inspection stickers and notifies Biomed of expired
inspection stickers. Practices safety, environmental, and/or
infection control methods. Transportation: Transports patients and
perform patient transfers as needed. Picks-up and delivers
specimens or other materials to and from designated areas. Pick-up
blood products. Materials, Linen, Durable Equipment and Supply
Management: Removes used patient equipment from patient rooms and
prepare the equipment for return or returns it to central supply.
Picks-up items (off-par supplies, linen or equipment) from Central
Supply Department. Disposes of soiled linen. Dietary/Refrigeration:
Defrosts and cleans refrigerator as assigned. Maintains temperature
log on all units' refrigerators daily. Prepare snacks, beverages
and coffee for patients, order nourishments as needed. Equipment
Management: Locates and transports equipment as needed (IV poles,
pumps). Stocks rooms and IV trays. Cleans and makes the bed. Cleans
patient rooms and performs procedures for after death care. Pulls
trash in patients' rooms between patients. Cleans equipment and
delivers to appropriate storage area for use (e.g. IV poles, beside
commodes). Cleans equipment according to maintenance schedule.
Maintains all equipment storage areas in a neat and orderly
fashion. Checks dates on equipment, notifies Biomed of expired
inspection stickers. Operations Support: Maintain and stock
supplies in the nursing unit. Transport medical records from
clerical to nursing area. Maintains cleanliness or organization of
personal workspace. Completes continuous quality and service tools
and monitoring tools as requested. Retrieves data from multiple
manual and computer-based information systems as requested by RN or
MD. Charge Capture: Ensure PSPD charge slips are dated and have
patient name and number. Assists in inventory and credits of supply
delivery and returns. Personal Leadership: Identifies
self-development needs and seeks assistance in meeting those needs.
Assist with orientation of new employees. Participates in the
self-directed work team project through project participation.
Interpersonal Skills/Teamwork: Demonstrates a willingness to assist
patients and co-workers when asked or when the need arises.
Anticipates and responds to the needs of others. Demonstrates
flexibility in responding to patient/unit needs. Demonstrates
respect toward patients and co-workers. Shows flexibility and
reliability in following the direction of the charge nurse.
Supports the mission of the institution. Documents and enters data
in the institutional EMR clinic station. Productivity/Professional
Behavior: Shows independence by completing duties as assigned.
Utilizes time in an efficient manner, completing duties in a timely
fashion. Shows initiative in seeking out appropriate additional
duties. Respects and maintains patient confidentiality. Attends
departmental meetings and in-services regularly. Safety: Recognizes
unsafe conditions and acts or reports conditions to supervisor
immediately. Adheres to universal precautions and principles of
asepsis. Demonstrates awareness of and concern for patient safety.
Assists patients in transfer using proper body mechanics and
transfer techniques. Reports repair needs to appropriate department
and/or manager. Professional Growth/Goal Setting: Goals for the
year are discussed between employee and supervisor, agreed to and
recorded at the evaluation meeting. Goals are consistently worked
on throughout the evaluation period. Goals are satisfactorily
accomplished within the evaluation period. Other duties as
assigned. EDUCATION Required: High school diploma/equivalent.
Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US
Military medical services training program. EXPERIENCE Required:
One year of medical assistant experience. With preferred degree, no
experience is required. Preferred: Two years of medical assistant
