Patient Services Coordinator - Nursing Isolation Unit - Evening/Night Shift

Job Description:

The Patient Services Coordinator position on the Nursing Isolation unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center coordinates and schedules patient appointments and has direct impact on patient care services.The schedule will be two 12 hour shifts and two 8 hour shifts each week. The shifts will be 7pm-7am, 3pm-11pm, and 11pm-7am, with rotating weekends and holidays required.The Nursing Isolation Unit cares for a mix of medical, surgical, hematological and ICU patients that have a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis. The patient population is mostly adults ages 18 and older. Our nurses have the opportunity to learn a variety of disease processes and manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. Quality and patient outcomes are at the heart of our practice, and the team actively participates in evidence based practice, grounding breaking care and research.Our safety protocols focus on multiple lines of defense to protect our patients and employees, including testing, vaccination, personal protective equipment (PPE) and managing the number of people on our campuses. The single point of entry allows for better controls and awareness for all staff. In addition, the isolation unit is supported by a separate air handling system and all rooms are designated as negative pressure rooms, which makes the unit ideal to serve suspected and confirmed cases. Our mission also includes education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.Essential Job Functions: Schedules provider appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments. Prepares and maintains daily appointment templates and/or patient records in One Connect (Epic). Communicates all pertinent information to families, physicians, team members, and other patient care areas. Prepares patient materials and documentation according to established procedures. Collects co-payments and validates patient insurance and demographics. Updates payment and patient information Reconciles One Connect cash drawer on a daily basis. Performs validation of the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ).Ensures coordination of benefits and assignment of Hospital Account Record (HAR). Follows standard operating procedures for institution and center. Protects the security and confidentiality of patient information at all times.EDUCATION:Required: High school diploma or equivalent.Preferred: Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree would be a plus.EXPERIENCE:Required: Three years of relevant work experience. May substitute additional education for required experience on a one to one basis.
