Job Description:
The Clinical Nurse on the Rehab/Neuro unit at MD Anderson Cancer
Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and
supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the
continuum of care. They impact quality of patient care, patient
outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration
with a multidisciplinary team.
Ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, an RN
license and at least twelve months of recent RN experience in
medical/surgical or an acute care setting.
Shift will be 7am-7pm, with rotating weekends and holidays
required.
Hourly breakdown of salary range:
Minimum $31.73 - Midpoint $46.15 - Maximum $61.54
MD Anderson offers our nurses:
Three 12 hour shifts per week, 1872 hours per year (minimum)
$8,320 annual inpatient differential, paid $346.67 per paycheck

The Rehab/Neuro unit is a 29 bed unit and the unit cares for
neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and in-patient rehab patients. The
patient population is mostly adults ages 18 and older. Our unit
focuses on acute care patients and Neuro Progressive Care patients
who require more hands on monitoring the first 24 hours
post-surgery. Quality and patient outcomes are at the heart of our
practice, and the team actively participates in Evidence Based
Practice, unit and hospital based committees, and local and
national conferences.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in
assigned area. Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and
multidisciplinary team. Collaborates with physicians, other
services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate
outcomes. Improves practice by integrating results and theories of
research studies. Participates in data collection for current
studies. Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in
providing care, using technology, administering medications,
performing procedures and managing emergencies. Documents care
according to established standards. Accesses, inputs and retrieves
information from computer systems. Assures continuity of care
through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and
coordination of services. Acts as a patient and family advocate in
order to uphold patient rights. Trains, coaches and assists team
members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of
resources.
EDUCATION:
Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional
nursing.
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing would be a plus.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: All clinical nurses with less than one year registered
nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the
Clinical Nurse Residency Program. This position is not eligible for
the residency program.
Preferred: Must have at least one year of clinical nursing
experience in an acute care setting.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license
(RN).
Preferred: Certification in oncology or other nursing specialty.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced
Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
certification as required by patient care area.
