MD Anderson Cancer Center has a Nurse Anesthetist part-time (20 hr) opportunity in our Anesthesiology department. Join our community of exceptional nurse anesthetists engaged in extraordinary practice and earn an additional $15,000 incentive during your first 3 years of employment.

The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center made up of a talented group of physicians, CRNAs, physician assistants and many others dedicated to providing the very best anesthesia and pain medicine care for our cancer patients. Our department members are dedicated to growing a truly academic department in all three areas of our academic mission: clinical care, research and education.

We have nearly 80 faculty and over 110 CRNAs in the department working in an anesthesia care team model to achieve our goals. MD Anderson main location includes 37 inpatient operating rooms, 6 outpatient ORs, and 13-16 non-operating room procedural suites. There are two regional centers (Katy & Woodlands) with 6 procedural areas incorporating endoscopy, interventional radiology, and cardiopulmonary services. The total Case volume is over 45,000 cases per year.

We participate in a variety of Specialty procedures: pediatrics, neurosurgery (includes awake craniotomies, intraoperative MRI craniotomies, skull base, spines), Urology (prostatectomy, cystectomy, nephrectomy, vena caval thrombectomy, robotic procedures), thoracic surgery (extrapleural pneumonectomy, lobectomy, thoracotomy), general surgery (hepatectomy, pancreatoduodenectomy, intra-abdominal hyperthermic hyperperfusion chemotherapy), Orthopedic Surgery (hemipelvectomy, implants, hip and knee arthroplasty), Head and Neck Surgery (difficult airway, glossectomy and total laryngectomies), Plastic Surgery, Breast Surgery (radical mastectomy with flap), and much more (no OB, no Trauma, no Open heart).

Essential Job Functions:

Determines an appropriate pre-anesthesia examination has been made by a physician, relevant tests have been completed and a thorough assessment of the patient has been performed. Develops a plan of care based on assessment, interpretation, anticipated procedure and essential equipment. Coordinates with appropriate health care providers. Administers anesthetic agents and adjunctive therapeutics. Monitors physiological responses and takes corrective action to maintain or stabilize the patient's condition. Provides resuscitative care. Records pertinent information on the patient's records. Terminates anesthesia. Provides patients with post-anesthesia care.


Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners (TSBNE) for clinical licensure as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Required: All of the following: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN) issued by the Texas Board of Nursing. Current State of Texas Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license recognizing the certification for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse CRNA (APRN-CRNA), issued by the Texas Board of Nursing. Certification or recertification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) issued by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA). ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA). PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).

MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
