Job Description:

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Oncology (MCO) advances basic, translational and clinical efforts to make MD Anderson the number one cancer research center. The department's oncology-driven research focuses on fundamental mechanistic discoveries and their translation to humans. As a basic science department at MD Anderson, the department strives to enhance basic research excellence by establishing a robust research group focused on the molecular and cellular aspects of cancer research, particularly in signaling pathways and crosstalk between tumor and tumor microenvironment in tumor initiation, progression and metastasis, and resistance to various therapies. The department also hosts MD Anderson's Functional Genomics Core with the support of the Cancer Center Supporting Grant (CCSG). In addition, departmental faculty are core members of the Cancer Biology and Metastasis Program of CCSG, rated "exceptional" in the last competing renewal.

Molecular & Cellular Oncology

Distinguished Lecture Seminar Series Program

  • Coordinates speakers with the Co-Directors, Chair ad interim, Department Administrator and faculty for the departmental CCSG and MCO Distinguished Lecture Seminar Series.
  • Arranges travel, hotel, ground transportation, visiting itinerary, dinner reservations, conference room reservations, technological setup, and prepares honoraria and reimbursements of lecture related expenses for more than 20 speakers per year.
  • Prepares and distributes the invitation letter to potential speakers.
  • Arranges their visit based on their availability and the schedule of the seminar series.
    Research-In-Progress Seminar Series Program

    • Coordinates speakers with the Co-Director, Chair ad interim, Department Administrator and faculty for the educational/research weekly seminar series.
    • Organizes and prepares the semester calendar of speakers and distributes to department and stakeholders.
      GSBS/Cancer Biology Program/1st Year Rotational Student Support

      • Coordinates with the Graduate School and faculty on the recruitment and selection process of incoming graduate students.
      • Assists faculty with arranging incoming students, interviews and schedules visitations.
      • Assists in planning paperwork for student rotations.
      • Coordinates outreach events with the Chair ad interim and faculty for first-year graduate students.
      • Assists with curriculum organization, including identifying courses, locations, teaching assignments, etc.
      • Assists the program directors with GSBS reports, including enrollment and participation statistics.
      • Provides students with important academic resources and core requirements.
        Manage Website

        • Manages the content of the departmental website.
        • Performs quarterly review for website to ensure that information is current.
        • Works with GSBS program directors to develop and upload materials related to the Cancer Biology Program.
        • Prepares changes and materials for the website, at the direction of the Ad Interim Chair and Department Administrator, to further promote the department's initiatives and ongoing research activities.
          Education

          Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field.

          Preferred: Master's degree.

          Experience

          Required: Three years project/program coordination experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.
