About OneGoal Despite decades of work and millions of dollarsinvested, the degree divide continues to be one of our nation’smost complex and critical injustices, with deep roots in systems ofoppression and racism. Only 22% of students from low-incomecommunities earn a college degree, compared to 67% of their peersfrom high-income areas.

COVID-19 further exposed and exacerbated inequity, withcommunities of color and those in low-income areas impacted atdisproportionately high rates. We are looking for individuals tojoin us in our fight for equity during this extremely criticaltime.

OneGoal has grown from a small afterschool program serving just32 students in Chicago to a nationwide movement that is servingsome 14,000 students in six communities.

Our model, honed over 12 years, has three core differentiators:A rigorous, culturally relevant content and experience, cohorts ofstudents who can support each other over the course of three years,and a teacher who supports our most vulnerable students’ long-termambitions.

88% of OneGoal high school graduates enroll in a postsecondaryinstitution and 79% of those who enroll persist one year after highschool.

The Role The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will report directlyto the CEO while working with the executive team collaborating ontasks like long-term plans and overall strategic direction. The COOhas a pivotal role within OneGoal’s operations. From a broaderperspective, the COO’s goal is to provide leadership and ensurethat OneGoal is working towards its goals from both operational andcultural points of view. The COO will set vision and direction forthe day-to-day operations and administration of our back-endfunctions. They must work to build and manage a strong businessmodel with particular focus on achieving coherence between ourfinancial and staffing models for our current program as well asour new district model.

The COO must be able to lead and inspire experienced executivesto execute against the organizational aims. They will need toestablish practices, policies, and infrastructure to ensure thesuccess of our finance, human assets, data systems, legal, andoperations functions. Additionally, they will need to continue towork towards impact at scale by finding ways to decrease cost andmaximize effectiveness.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

Set Vision and Manage Strategic Direction

Codify, evolve and manage operational alignment of our DualBusiness Models towards our vision and strategic directionincluding: Codify and refine the stakeholders with whom theorganization will interact, particularly the “mission stakeholder”or “customer” for Regional and District Partnership BusinessModels

Codify and refine the offer or promise that the organization ismaking to the mission stakeholder – often referred to as the “valueproposition” for Regional and District Partnership BusinessModels

Build, test and refine the financial model (income statement andbalance sheet) taking account of size and growth ambitions forRegional and District Partnership Business Models

Developing and evolving OneGoal’s Operating Model to supportRegional and District Partnership Business Models in driving impactat scale . The operating model should display: the work that needsto be done in the organization

the type of people and culture needed to do this work, how thesepeople are connected together in an organizational structure, howimportant decisions are made,

where the people and assets are located,

how the people work together across the structure andlocations,

what other organizations are needed to support the work

and how the people are managed through regular planning,budgeting, KPIs and performance review meetings .

Identification of systems-level gaps and solutions, incollaboration with other teams

Develop efficiency metrics and use them to seek new andinnovative ways to decrease costs and maximize effectiveness forRegional and District Partnership Business Models

Ensuring collaboration and alignment across all OneGoalfunctions in service of Regional and District Partnership BusinessModels

Analyze long-term efficacy of Regional and District PartnershipBusiness Models and recommend when/if, we should consolidate.Evolve and manage our business strategy towards our visionincluding: Identification of systems-level gaps andsolutions, in collaboration with other teams, in program design andimplementation

Marshalling time and resources in line with prioritized strategyimplementation

Seeking new and innovative ways to decrease costs and maximizeeffectiveness

Ensuring collaboration and alignment across all OneGoalfunctions in service of our strategy and vision

As we move into our next phase of our program (in the next threeyears), set long-term vision for our business model and engage abroad set of internal and external stakeholders around thatvision

Provide Team and Cultural Leadership

Provide direct management to the leaders of our Human Assets,Finance and Operations and Data Solutions teams

As an organizational leader, serve as a model of OneGoal’s corevalues while operating in active alignment with our Commitment toDEI

Lead change management as both a team lead and a key partner onthe executive leadership team

Lead and support operations functional teams through ongoingcoaching and development that enables their ability to successfullylead their teams

Manage Operations Performance, Talent, and Resources

Manage direct reports to achieve yearly and multi-year outcomesas measured by our financial health (Balance Sheet) and engagementscores (Culture Amp). Specific streams of work include: Developefficiency metrics to manage cost for our core model

Create coherence between our business and staffing models forboth our District Partnership Pilot efforts and core businessmodel.

Expense reduction process and plan is anchored in our vision,mission, strategic direction and core values (i.e. simple andaccessible throughline between expense reduction plan, vision,mission, strategic direction, core values and core objectives)

Work alongside our Human Assets team and organization leadershipto ensure that our overall system, tools and operations are alignedwith the culture we seek to have as an organization.

Training staff on critical knowledge, skills and mindsets

Build the capacity of direct reports and ensure all teamsattract, develop, engage and retain exceptional, diverse leaders;support and enable the staff experience as one that is positive andequitable, as measured by our staff engagement measure with no gapsin results by background

Effectively manage and steward organizational resources (people,time, money, brand)

Serve as an Organizational Leader

Engage as a partner with other executive leadership team memberswith particular emphasis on close partnership and alignment withthe Regional Operations Team

Ensure strategic coherence, integration of program strategy, andstrong collaborative structures across regional and national teamsto ensure OneGoal is on track to meet our ambitious long-termoutcomes through short, medium, and long-term engagements

Systems-thinking

The COO should balance out a visionary tendency with practicalfollow-through. The ideal COO is someone who can take the ideas ofplans of the CEO, break them down into actionable steps, and ensurethat they’re done efficiently. They love details, they’remeticulous, they do what they say they’ll do, and they are loversof creating systems to make the company operate better as awhole.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree (Required)

Expertise in finance, human assets, or executive leadership byway of 5+ years in senior management

Strong track record of decisive prioritization

Strong track record of coaching and management experiencethrough multiple layers

Ability to travel to achieve outcomes (typically, on average 3-5times per quarter), once COVID-related travel restrictions end(Required )
