Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is an 881-bed quaternary care academic medical center that is a joint venture between Baylor College of Medicine and CHI St. Luke's Health. Position Summary

Provides care to those suffering from acute and chronic respiratory problems. This care includes treatment, management, control, and diagnostic evaluation of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system.

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of normal acid-base balance, oxygenation, ventilation and coagulation via blood products, necessary medication and anticoagulation protocols.
  • The ECMO specialist is familiar with and operates advanced ECMO support equipment and performs ECMO therapy according to physician orders.
  • The specialist is proficient in all assigned duties required and will act as a clinical resource for ECLS. The specialist is detail oriented and highly motivated while caring for an extremely diverse patient population often under stressful situations.
  • Sets up and primes ECMO circuits, initiates alongside the Perfusionist and maintains extracorporeal life support according to protocols.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Licensure:

  • Completion of respiratory care degree program
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of Texas (RCP)
  • Based on location assignment may also require BLS/ACLS/ and or PALS
