Entity and activity description

Air Liquide Large Industries provides our customers with industrial gas and energy solutions that are vital to their own industrial production. We own and operate over 2,000 miles of industrial gas pipelines in the U.S. supplying mainly oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and syngas in large quantities from multiple production sources to major customers in the chemicals, petrochemicals, refining and steel industries. Our pipeline operations and industrial gas production facilities are closely monitored 24/7 within our leading-edge operations control center located in Houston, Texas. Our operations control group monitors over 89,000 data points and assists with product supply and coordination. We are constantly optimizing our supply network to provide high reliability and energy efficiencies allowing Air Liquide to adjust supply needs more quickly and effectively enabling growth to our customers.

Job Summary

The Senior Reliability Engineer is responsible for identifying and proposing solutions to circumvent reliability risks that could negatively affect AL primary production plant and business operations. Acquire and analyze maintenance and reliability statistics to help define sustainable solutions to improve plant production availability and asset uptime. Partner with other RE's, SME's, Plant Management, Engineering, and Operations personnel to develop sustainable processes and strategies to reduce and/or eliminate reliability incidents and their associated costs of unreliability.


  • Ensures safe, efficient, and reliable asset operations as relates to self and others during operational, maintenance, optimization and troubleshooting activities
  • Implements continuous improvement strategies and provides constructive feedback on the Air Liquide programs and initiatives
  • Follows all AL Policies and Standard Operating and Maintenance Procedures.
  • Ability to work towards the role as a Technical Expert in reliability and maintenance
  • Follows governmental rules and engineering standards: (API, ASME, ANSI, NBIC, NFPA, etc)
  • Ability to read and interpret IMS, QMS, and local documents
  • Leads and/or participates in RCA (Root Cause Analysis) investigations
  • Utilizes and understands Enterprise Asset Management system (Maximo)
  • Maintains and updates asset records
  • Creates, reviews and optimizes predictive and preventive Work Orders and Job Plans
  • Follows the PM change request process
  • Collaborates with Maximo SME's and administrators routinely
  • Creates, reviews, and approves maintenance and reliability job plans
  • Follows up with Plants to ensure corporate PM/PdM matrix goals are being met
  • Collects, Organizes, Analyzes, Interprets, and prioritizes preventive and/or predictive maintenance data as relates to mechanical inspections and condition based monitoring (vibration, oil analysis, IR analysis, data mining, predictive analytics, etc.)
  • Conducts reliability data analysis -examples include but are not limited to: statistical Process Control, Reliability modeling and prediction, Data mining, Fault Tree Analysis, Weibull Tree Analysis, Lean Six Sigma, Mean Time To Repair, Mean Time Between Failure, Overall Equipment Effectiveness, Return on Net Assets plant/zone availability and reliability
  • Understands and utilizes LI Reliability Incident Management Database
  • Generates reports
  • Reviews and analyzes reliability incidents. Identifies trends and proposes long-term solutions.
  • Analyzes data from reports
  • Collaborates with Maintenance & Operations Teams
  • Supports development and implementation of the AL Mechanical Integrity Program
  • Collaborates with 3rd party MI Vendors
  • Provides Technical specifications to 3rd party MI vendors as requested
  • Participates in site RBI studies
  • Takes ownership of MI Software
  • Works closely with the Mechanical Integrity Engineer
  • Participates in scope development and turnaround activities for the MI program
  • Leads Monthly Reliability Meetings
  • Facilitates Vulnerability Study reviews for primary production plants and pipeline networks
  • Participates in the MOC process as relates to maintenance and reliability
  • Participates in PSSR's as requested
  • Generates reports, develops metrics and spreadsheets (technical)
  • Participates in driving full implementation of AL's spare parts program
  • Support National and Satellite Warehouse initiatives as applicable to Department of Reliability
  • Participates in KRA and other AL steering committees or work groups as requested
  • Provides recommendations to optimize asset maintenance, critical spare parts, rebuild and inspection costs via National Supply Management Programs
  • Optimizes current maintenance strategies based upon the RCA , FMEA results and/ or Industry Best Practices
  • Implements continuous improvement strategies
  • Identifies and recommends solutions and processes that are sustainable


  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering AND 10+ years of related reliability engineering or maintenance & reliability activities
  • Extensive working knowledge of machinery, process equipment and associated reliability or maintenance practices
  • Ability to work self directed and make sound decisions
  • Able to travel as required


  • Maintenance Engineering experience with Steam Methane Reformer (SMR) plants as well as Hydrogen production units is a Plus
  • Ability to read and interpret vibration analysis data (vibration level certifications 1 and higher a plus)
  • Lubrication knowledge and expertise
  • Detailed knowledge of Maintenance and Reliability Best Practices
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent practical and the theoretical Mechanical skills (Primary Discipline)
  • Cross-Functional Discipline Experience a plus (Operations, Rotating Equipment, Electrical (HV, MV, LV) and /or Instrumentation),
  • Experience in CMMS or EAM systems (Maximo)
  • Experience in Google, MS and other software applications

  • Pursues nomination and advancement within the Air Liquide Technical Career Ladder

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical range of motion required to climb/descend ladders, work off elevated platforms/surfaces at heights above 50 feet; inspect equipment in high elevation areas (cooling tower fans, gearboxes, Fin Fans, compressor decks, etc)
  • Has full range of motion; ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Able to enter confined spaces for inspection/testing while wearing fall restraint and respirators
  • Ability to travel as needed and on short notice if necessary
  • Can be consulted 24/7 by Operations and Industrial Direction Departments
