Electrical Engineer supporting research and development
activities at the forefront of the marine and offshore industries.
This can include leading industry projects, developing
Classification Society requirements and assessing the maturity of

developments affecting present and potential customers and
communicates this information promptly to the appropriate senior
Serves as Account Manager to designated and potential customers
and actively promotes the services and capabilities of ABS
throughout the business community.
Provides day-to-day leadership of Engineering staff assigned.
Assigns projects to Engineers/Senior Engineers and monitors the
progress of all assigned projects. Ensures the delivery of high
quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.
Develops suggested Rule changes and/or Rule development projects
as assigned. Advises assigned staff in matters related to the
application of Rules and Regulations.
Directs the implementation and operation of the ABS Quality
System with regard to technical work in assigned jurisdiction.
Performs selected engineering reviews and analyses where
Advises managers of short- and long-term manpower needs in order
to insure that qualified, trained technical staff are available as
needs arise and identifies associated training needs.
Appraises the performance and development potential of
Develops or assists in the development of qualification
statements, proposals and bids; makes presentation of these
materials to prospective clients when necessary.
Ensures accurate billing to clients in a timely manner.
Ensures that all ABS Quality System requirements with regard to
technical work within assigned technical area of responsibility are

control engineers network during discussions of technical subject
matter in the area of expertise.
Supports risk assessments workshops
Supports and participates in root cause and failure analysis
- Writes and presents technical papers in area of expertise and
on the work developed
Participates in industrial societies and maintains activities
and future developments in the area of expertise
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (KSAR)
Knowledge of new technology energy storage systems, such as
battery system type installations onboard vessels. Knowledge of AC
and DC power generation and power distribution systems.
Knowledge of power system analysis such as short circuit
calculation, protection coordination studies, power flow, harmonics
analysis, arc flash analysis, etc..
General understating of design, installation and tests of
multiple electrical equipment deployed in marine and offshore
applications (such as electric motors, variable frequency drives,
transformers, switchgears, generator control, etc.)
General understanding of existing and emerging technologies for
energy storage (batteries, supercapacitors, flywheels) and power
generation (fuel cells, dual fuel engine-generator sets) for the
production of electric power onboard vessels.
General understanding of dynamic positioning systems and their
electrical and control requirements as per classification
Expert on multiple tools, technical platforms, techniques,
Extensive previous experience in the aforementioned tasks.
Understanding of the methodology of program development.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of relational and hierarchical database management
Qualified in the design and maintenance of computer systems.
Skilled in developing computer solutions for one of the
following: Engineering; HRIS; Financial; CAD.
Data analysis and modeling.
Proven ability to instruct others.
Demonstrated ability to work well with others.
- Needs to be familiar with the ABS Health, Safety, Quality &
Environmental Management System.
Minimum years of Experience
At least eight (8) years working experience,
Required/Preferred Education Requirements
B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or other related
disciplines; an M.S. is preferred.
Required/Preferred Professional Requirements
Professional or chartered engineer license preferred.
Works closely with a senior level Manager with regards to
day-to-day activities, as appropriate, such as status/scheduling of
work, setting priorities, sales initiatives, etc. Direct reports to
the incumbent will be members of the engineering or technical staff
and office support staff.
- Collaborates with the appropriate District/Country Manager or
other senior level manager on group projects and assignments and
other matters of mutual concern.

structures. Occasionally may have to lift between 515 pounds.
