About the role

The Manager of Strategy & Innovation is a professional that will be responsible for assisting the Strategy & Innovation team in developing, communicating, executing, measuring, and sustaining the strategic vision and strategic plans for AIG's Life insurance business. Manager of Strategy & Innovation will also assist in ongoing strategy reviews with a goal of positioning AIG Life as the premier provider of protection solutions. Strategy & Innovation group's mandate includes a focus on leveraging data and analytics and development of a structured approach to the InsurTech marketplace. Additionally, Strategy & Innovation group will be involved in forming growth plans for AIG's Life Insurance product and business portfolio through organic and inorganic means. Initial areas of focus, among others, will include enhancing AIG Life capabilities in the direct life insurance market and exploring expansion into less interest rate sensitive product lines and markets. Manager of Strategy & Innovation will report directly to the Head of Strategy & Innovation for Life US, who is an executive directly reporting to the Head of AIG Life US and is a standing member of the Life Leadership Team.

Developing:

  • Support continued development of a rolling strategic vision for the AIG Life business and ensure development of business unit and functional strategies within the AIG Life portfolio in collaboration with business and functional leadership
  • Play a role of assisting Strategy & Innovation team in required analytics and modelling for development of the strategic vision and plans
  • Liaise with various members of AIG Life, Life & Retirement (L&R) and AIG organization to collect necessary data, information and research required to develop the strategic vision and plans
  • Participate in developing structured approach to innovation / InsurTech marketplace, inclusive of setting up appropriate framework for innovation pilots and incubation efforts

Communicating:

  • Assist the Strategy & Innovation team and AIG Life management in developing materials that communicate strategic vision and plans in discussions with L&R and AIG's executive management team, AIG Board of Directors as well as any external stakeholders
  • Coordinate and assist in creation of the right level of communication (verbal, written, presentation, etc.) across all functions of AIG Life

Executing:

  • Assist the Head of Strategy & Innovation, Head of Life, Life business and functional leaders in successfully executing strategic plans
  • Develop an institutionalized system to identify and track industry trends and market movements; through this process create a "bench" of potential ideas for execution
  • Identify and lead strategic and continuous improvement opportunities across the Life business
  • Help in mobilizing and managing teams of internal and external individuals charged with review and execution of strategy and innovation plans

Measuring:

  • Work with AIG Life Finance and leadership team to enable continuous review of the business composition and performance from multiple perspectives through analyzing and tracking multi-year portfolio and business unit-level financial and other business metrics
  • Help the team coordinate with appropriate corporate functions, such as finance, controllers and ERM to ensure alignment with AIG's financial goals and company-wide internal and external metrics
  • Work closely with Finance, Operations, Data & Analytics groups of AIG Life business to build out efficient approaches to presentation and tracking of key business KPIs

Sustaining:

  • Help Strategy & Innovation team and AIG Life executives build out a principles-based process to be flexible in order to react to rapid changes resulting from globalization, regulatory matters, competitive and innovative pressures and opportunities
  • Assist in establishing a simple and repeatable process to update strategic vision and plans for AIG Life portfolio, as well as tracking of progress related to increasing use of innovative approaches and technology in the business

What we are looking for

  • The candidate should have a very strong quantitative background. A high-level of integrity and trust is essential for this role.
  • 3+ years of business experience; ideally at a top-tier investment banking or strategy consulting firm or a Strategy department of a publicly traded and global insurance firm
  • Comprehensive awareness of the Life insurance business, insurance in general as well as adjacent businesses within the context of competitive position and global regulatory environment. Life & Retirement industry experience highly preferred
  • Strong presentation development skills and ability to develop clear and concise analysis and recommendations to senior management
  • Very strong research and analytical skills required for business intelligence, product and distribution analysis, and strategic and performance improvement projects
  • Action Oriented - enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available; not afraid to take charge of a situation
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
