Basic FunctionThe candidate will investigate physicochemical processes in geological environments from an atomistic level in order to advance the molecular-scale basis of carbon transformations. The research will be conducted as part of a collaborative initiative to develop nature-inspired and/or engineered strategies for CO2 utilization and geological storage.Duties & ResponsibilitiesAdvance the understanding of nanoconfined fluid systems including chemical reactions, ion pairing, solution dynamics, and ion transport using unconventional experimental designsDesign customized experimental methods to probe the interface of complex systems composed of brine, supercritical CO2, and mineralsDevelop methods that lead to energetically favorable pathways for synthesizing new products or accelerating CO2 mineralizationDesign novel material systems or engineered molecular processes to utilize and/or permanently store CO2 in geological environmentsStudy geochemical reactions and fate and transport in geological systems; develop new methods to study small scale, reactive fluid transport, and the thermodynamics of equilibrium and kinetic processes in geological materialsContribute to and initiate innovative projects with recognized high business impact to AramcoUtilize a wide range of modern analytical techniques for the characterization of materials and systemsCapture intellectual property related to CO2 utilization and storagePrepare high impact technical papers for peer-reviewed journalsParticipate/contribute to professional societies and technical groupsBe a team player working with people who have a wide range of skill sets and disciplinesDemonstrate a strong commitment to maintain high quality occupational health, safety, & environment (HSE) rules and regulationsPerform other duties as assigned based on education & experienceCandidate should be comfortable in working independently or part of a project teamInternational travel maybe required to meetings at conferences and universitiesEducation and ExperienceM.S. Degree in Chemistry, Physics, or related discipline. Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, or Physics highly preferredTypically has sixteen (16) years of professional experience including at least five (5) years as a specialist with full responsibility for major technical work in physical chemistryExpertise in the experimental study of nanoconfined fluid systems including chemical reactions, ion pairing, solution dynamics, and ion transportKnowledge of complex equilibria of aqueous systems and solubility/miscibility properties of pressurized fluidsUnderstanding small scale, reactive fluid transport, and the thermodynamics of equilibrium and kinetic processes in geological materials is desirable; knowledge of CO2 mineralization processes is also desirableKnowledge of mineral reaction rates in multimineral porous media; experience coupling laboratory experiments and reactive transport simulations with multiscale imaging analysis to enhance understanding of porous media samples is desirableStrong knowledge of chemical analysis techniques such as NMR, FT-IR, Raman, XRD, Mass Spec, or AFM; ability to develop custom experimental setups is a plusCandidate will have achieved substantial recognition in their area of expertise; ideally, the candidate will have published in significant technical journals and will have a history of active participation in technical society activitiesMust be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlinedGood interpersonal and communication skills; proficient technical writing skillsMust possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquetteNO THIRD PARTY CANDIDATES ACCEPTEDGzzDkv2DrK
