Job Description:
Our client, a major company in Houston, is looking for an
experienced IT solutions architect to build out a renewable energy
business, starting with onshore wind power. This is NOT a hands on
keyboard programming/developer job; rather, this is for someone who
understands many different pieces of technology, enjoys talking to
internal and external customers, and can figure out how to put
everything together. To help build this business, you should
understand not only IT systems and data BUT ALSO how to interface
with finance, energy trading, physical assets (industrial control
-- think SCADA/IoT), and all the security complexities. In other
words, everything from making the wind turbine work to delivering
electrons down the wires at the right time and price.
There are a lot of challenging problems to solve, and as this is a
highly competitive business, efficiency is key.
This is a great position for someone who is technically savvy and
wants to make a difference in deploying efficient green energy
solutions in the U.S. and potentially other countries. There are
significant career growth opportunities as the renewable business
expands into other areas. You'll be setting the foundation for this
part of the company for at least the next 5-10 years.
Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience designing and
deploying IT systems in complex environments. Ideally you already
have experience with physical assets in the energy industry, but
that's not required. Cloud experience -- ideally AWS or Azure -- is
critical. Finally, you must be able to work positively and
constructively in a team environment and be skilled at both
understanding complex technical topics and explaining them at an
appropriate level to different audiences.
This position is hybrid in Houston -- the office is located in west
Houston, and expectations are generally that candidates will be in
the office about 3 days/week, hours TBD necessary to get the job
done. Minimal travel -- most likely to visit wind farms and
vendors.
Candidates MUST be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (green
card), or ALREADY HAVE valid U.S. work visas.
This position IS NOT a good match for:-- candidates outside the
U.S.-- recent university graduates-- IT sysadmins who have not
previously designed and delivered MAJOR systems on a significant
scale.-- candidates seeking fully remote roles
