Leidos has an excellent opportunity for a Designer to work on the Cargo Mission Contract (CMC). In this position the employee will develop drawings and assist in design development for spaceflight hardware, and also periodically perform project management/project engineering tasks in support of NASA's Johnson Space Center International Space Station (ISS), Orion, Human Landing System (HLS), Gateway, and EVA and Human Surface Mobility (EHP) Programs. The team works with commercial software such as PTC CREO CAD, Windchill, IBM Maximo, Microsoft (MS) Project, and MS SharePoint, in addition to CMC custom software.

Primary Responsibilities

Work in a team environment to analyze requirements from the customer and develop design solutions
Design, develop, test, implement, and analyze technical products and systems
Perform engineering design evaluations
Perform trade studies and create out-brief presentations
Prepare and present designs at various design reviews
Produce engineering drawings conforming to JPR 8500, ASME Y14.5, and other applicable standards
Perform dimensional fit tolerance analysis and functional analysis including form, fit and function
Produce other required design documentation as required
Occasionally manage hardware development projects to certify, flight-configure, and deliver new hardware for spaceflight
Review, author, approve, and monitor work orders, purchase requests, non-conformance reports, internal/external customer presentations, designs, and trade studies

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least 3 years' experience
Must have the ability to produce drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5
Must have experience using PTC CREO CAD software and Windchill
Must have working knowledge of machine shop processes
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
Demonstrated ability to work well in a team and independently on a dynamic development program
Must be a self-starter, highly motivated, and take initiative in completing tasks with minimal management direction

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarization with JSC Engineering Drawing System Manual (JPR 8500)
Familiarization with JSC Fabrication Tolerances and Practices (SKZ36103755)
Experience designing Human Spaceflight hardware and creating drawings for NASA/JSC, including mechanical/electrical systems, cables, and/or softgoods
Excellent data gathering, analytical, and critical thinking skills
Proficient in MS Office, MS Project, and MS Excel
Ability to understand technical concepts and designs and relate them to schedule inputs and impacts

Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation. Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident due to length investigation for non-U.S. persons.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $60,450.00 - $93,000.00 - $125,550.00
