• Transform services to better utilize data to produce actionable analysis, better decision making, and transparency to citizensDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSProvides architectural guidance and technical leadership of the Compute Infrastructure (Servers, storage) environment for conventional Data Centers and Cloud. Responsible for high-level server and storage planning, design, and optimization. Develops strategies and direction for server and storage systems solutions using current and emerging technologies. Responsibilities typically include:
  • Responsible for the design, installation, administration, and optimization of the company servers, e.g., Windows, UNIX, LINUX, and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications with a specific focus on the Cloud (Azure, AWS).
    • Ensures the availability of client/server applications, configures all new implementations, and develops processes/procedures for ongoing management of the server environment
      • Handles access issues and assists in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center/server farm. Cloud Computing Architecture focuses on cost/benefit analysis to determine the financial, operational, and technical feasibility of adopting external cloud-based IT platform and infrastructure services including:
        • Platform-as-a-service (PAAS) that provides a scalable platform for application development and deployment, including software development tools that provide read-made functionality for common application development tasks and outsourcing of system administration tasks
          • Infrastructure-as-a-service (IAAS) that provides scalable IT infrastructure including servers, security devices, info-communications networking, mass storage, and associated systems software
            • Evaluating the cost/benefit of cloud vs. virtual private networks vs. dedicated hosting vs. in house solutions and identifying portions of the organization's IT platform/infrastructure with the highest potential return for cloud deployment
              • Managing the implementation of cloud services and integrating with in-house applications and systems An architect is a recognized subject matter expert in job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Responsibilities typically include:
                • Managing large projects or processes with limited oversight from manager.
                  • Coaching, reviewing and delegating work to lower-level professionals.
                    • Problems faced are difficult and often complex. WORKING CONDITIONSThere are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions. May occasionally require work in outdoor environment.
