Job Description
As Control Systems Team Lead with the Energy & Transportation
Marine and Oil & Gas team, you will engage in the design,
development, and deployment of Caterpillar Electronic Systems and
Controls supporting the Oil & Gas industries. You will develop
system designs and architecture, define strategies and controls,
and work with Control Systems Engineer, program lead and
development team to integrate strategies into a working system that
meets program needs. Significant coordination and interfacing are
required across organizations to execute job responsibilities. Key
focus for this position is development of Caterpillar products to
serve the Oil & Gas industry, including being a primary Electronics
interface for the Cat Oil & Gas team in Houston.
Job Duties
Develop and validate control system strategies and
functionality
Collaborate with internal customers and team members to develop
software specifications
Test and verify components, system, and strategy operation on
benches, at test sites, and in applications
Perform system validation of solutions and strategies to insure
100% effectiveness
Project schedule coordination with the team
Diagnostic and Service Test system design
Robust integration to ensure superior performance, durability,
quality, and serviceability
FMEA engagement and proactive risk mitigation
NPI issue management
Field Follow and integration support of new OEM's
Field data and diagnostic monitoring
Component selection from suppliers
Controller harnessing architecture and pin out definition
The site solutions Caterpillar offers in the Oil & Gas Frac help
customers make better, more informed decisions and help Caterpillar
make robust products with the lowest total ownership cost.
The team leader role accounts for up to 25% of this assignment the
remainder of the time, the incumbent acts as an individual
contributor, bringing technical expertise to the project. Team
leaders must manage their own development, continuously learning
through experience new business knowledge and skill.
Program/project management and strong organizational skills are
critical.
Interpersonal, leadership, and strong communication skills are
required. Significant challenges of this position are working with
people: enhancing the team's creativity; facilitating the team's
cooperation; clearly communicating the requirements and tasks,
while gaining input from the team on refinement of same;
translating both verbal and non-verbal information from the
customer, management, and team members.
Team leader must develop good networks to enable them to obtain
resources and cooperation needed and remove roadblocks so that they
can insure the success of their team. Project team leaders may be
called upon to give input to performance reviews for team members.
Ever increasing skills in the role-based competencies of Managing
Vision & Purpose, Decision Quality, and Negotiating are
required.
The incumbent would set strategy at the project level. The project
would solve problems for a single technology, component, product,
or process.
Basic Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering
curriculum plus 8 to 15 years of control systems engineering
experience, or an advanced degree in an Engineering or Computer
Science curriculum plus 7 to 15 years of control systems
engineering experience.

Previous systems validation experience with Caterpillar
products
Experience/ familiarity with Oil & Gas applications
Excellent organization, communication, interpersonal, and
collaboration skills
Experience/ familiarity with embedded software development
Experience utilizing development and data analysis tools (e.g.
CANape, CANcase, eDaq, etc.)
Experience with HIL Simulation
Strong analytical skills
Desire to work in a fast paced, team environment
