Responsible for facilitating ARD meetings and assisting in the
development of the students' Individualized Education Programs
(IEP) and completion of required ARD paperwork on the Campus
assigned to. Communicates with campus staff and parents before and
after ARD Committee meetings in ARD preparation/follow-up
activities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree
- Valid Teaching Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Communicate with colleagues on a regular basis
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
- Interact with parents
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements for
educating students with disabilities
- Good attention to detail
Experience:
- Prefer 3 years of teaching experience in Special Education
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Management Monitors and assesses student ability and
achievement
- Ensures that student progress is evaluated on a regular,
systematic basis, and that findings are used in making decisions to
improve program effectiveness as it relates to specific student
needs
- Addresses student achievement deficiencies by focusing
resources and efforts to promote satisfactory classroom
performance. Diagnoses and addresses student needs
- Addresses the educational needs of at-risk students
- Directs resources and efforts to address the most pressing
student needs Assists teachers in designing student learning
experiences
- Interacts with staff to plan, implement, and evaluate IEP's on
a systematic basis to include students and community
representatives as appropriate.
- Assists in monitoring the instructional process to ensure that
program activities are aligned with desired outcomes. Demonstrates
effective human relations skills
- Develops and maintains positive staff morale.
- Communicates high expectations and regard for the individual in
an enabling and non-threatening manner. Employs effective
communication skills
- Fosters and promotes collegiality and team building.
- Strives to keep personnel informed on pertinent matters.
- Listens with an open mind to the ideas and concerns of all
constituents.
Personnel Management

attaining program goals.
Administration, Fiscal, and Facilities Management Manages the
assessment/interpretation function effectively
- Ensures that Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee
meetings are conducted appropriately to comply with applicable
state and federal guidelines.
- Serves as a resource person in interpreting the general
objectives, laws, policies, and procedures of the Special Education
program to students, parents, staff, and community.
School/Community Relations
Fosters collaborative educational efforts among members of the
total school community
- Works to alleviate parental anxiety in matters pertaining to
student assessment, program eligibility, and Individual Educational
Plan (IEP).
- Responds to parent/community concerns in a timely manner.
Professional growth and development
Seeks and uses evaluative information to improve performance
- Seeks, accepts, and responds to evaluative feedback from
supervisors and peers.
- Takes the initiative to further develop appropriate
professional skills.
- Maintains contact with current research, practice, and
legislative guidelines affecting special education.
