business.PRIMARY PURPOSEIntegrates and interprets subsurface data
from wells and other sources with 3D seismic data to identify and
assess hydrocarbon traps in the supra and subsalt basins of the
deep-water Gulf of Mexico. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This is a
technical role for someone with the ambition to further grow and
develop into a geophysicist with high impact across Oxy's assets in
the GoM and around the world.Technical:
- Uses the full range of seismic attributes and inversion
products to describe the size as well as the structural and
stratigraphic complexity of the trap
- Explains seismic amplitudes in terms of fluid fill, as well as
shale and reservoir properties
- Quantifies exploration risk elements, such as trap and
reservoir presence, seal integrity, and charge
- Provides the structural and stratigraphic framework for static
reservoir models
- Incorporates production and pressure data into subsurface
interpretation leading to increased accuracy on future production
expectations
- Provides the geophysical input for reserves booking
- Propose solutions to avoid or address geo-hazards that may
exist during drilling operations
- Work with the RE and geologist to integrate geophysical
interpretations into a comprehensive and robust earth model
- Incorporates information from a variety of sources including
surface mapping, sequence stratigraphy, and geological data
- Engage in strategic well development activities and apply
seismic in real-time drilling operations to look ahead and to avoid
drilling hazards and to predict target reservoir interval
depthsTeam Interaction & Leadership:
- Member of an integrated multi-disciplinary subsurface team
- Collaborate with geoscience technology team on seismic
acquisition, processing, and quantitative interpretation.
- Collaborate with multidiscipline development, exploration, and
execution (operations) teams across the GoM
- Collaborate with partners on key recommendations such as
drilling proposals, seismic acquisition and seismic
re-processing*Qualifications*REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
AND COMPENTENCIESEducation:
- MSc Degree in GeophysicsProfessional/Technical Knowledge:
- Seismic interpretation experience utilizing 2D/3D seismic
interpretation software to create synthetic seismograms, produce
structural/stratigraphic maps and frameworks, and to integrate
seismic interpretations with geologic and engineering data
- Extensive experience in the identification and utilization of
seismic attributes and seismic inversion studies, as well as
techniques to identify faults and fractures via coherence,
curvature, ant-tracking or other attributes, to aid in the
characterization of reservoir models.
- A working understanding of seismic acquisition and processing
and its impact on data confidence and the interpretation
process.
- An understanding of and/or experience using geophysical methods
for reservoir and production monitoring, including vertical seismic
profile (VSP) and microseismic studies.
- Experience with supporting reserves estimation and petroleum
economics based upon geotechnical mapping.
- Previous experience with deepwater depositional systems and
salt tectonics preferred Professional / Technical
Qualifications/Licenses/Certifications:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the
ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations
with incomplete information.
- Excellent time management skills with ability to manage
multiple assignments concurrently and meet tight deadlines.
- Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills with
experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present work
product in an effective manner; possess the ability to share
information to mentor/develop others.
- Creative thinker with a desire to challenge the status quo and
conventional thinking with the ability to implement new ideas,
processes, and technologies. Experience: Minimum 7 years of
experience in similar role within industry; Preferably in DWGOM or
deep-water international development.Relocation: This position is
