General Description:

The Senior Electrical Reliability Engineer will provide electrical component engineering support to operating wind and solar energy facilities. This is a highly independent role that will receive minimal supervisory guidance. This position will be on a hybrid work schedule, working three days in the office and two days from home.

Main accountabilities:

* Primary responsibility for the reliability of all primary electrical components in EDPR NA's wind turbine fleet, including, but not limited to, generators, dry type transformers, and converters. Will also be expected to consult on Solar inverter issues.
* Diagnose problems with wind turbine and solar electrical components via analyses of data and performance, troubleshooting, and equipment inspections
* Lead and conduct internal failure analysis and the RCA process, working closely with Operations and Asset Management personnel
* Work with OEM, major component manufacturers, and other industry resources to address major component problems and improvement opportunities
* Develop solutions to major component problems pertaining to design details, manufacturing and supplier details, and parts and sub-component considerations
* Provide implementation recommendations and support to Central Maintenance Department regarding major component repair, replacement, and retrofit solutions including work instruction development, preliminary BOM, and preliminary planning
* Develop new component rebuild options, and manage quality of existing suppliers
* Review safety and quality aspects of major component repair and replacement
* Assess risks and provide input on safety and quality control measures
* Develop and implement a life-cycle assessment and optimization program for electrical components
* Work with various internal resources to ensure that proper monitoring, historical data, and analytical programs are in place to achieve departmental tasks and goals
* Manage failure and configuration records as well as case management for electrical components
* Perform component reliability analysis via various software options, and develop annual failure rate analysis for budgeting and scenario evaluation purposes
* Implement lessons learned and continuous improvement of electrical component processes
* Additional duties as required

Minimum qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
* 5 - 8 years of relevant technical experience, including at least 5 years in the wind energy industry
* Thorough practical and technical knowledge of power generation equipment
* Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software
* Knowledge of reliability analysis software, such as Weibull++, R, etc.

* Physical capability to walk, kneel, twist, and climb in order to access wind turbine towers and equipment for inspections and data collection
* Willingness and ability to travel frequently (20 - 30%)
* Six Sigma training preferred
* Familiarity with generators, solar, and power generation and conversion equipment preferred

* Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment
* Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
* Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds
* Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
* Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
