JOB DESCRIPTION PRODUCTION MANAGER DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing ORGANIZATIONAL CATEGORY: Staff Employee REPORTS TO: General Manager FLSA CLASSIFICATION: ExemptThe following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified. I. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES The Production Manager oversees the application of lean manufacturing principles in company operations including manual and CNC machining, welding and fabrication, and assembly, coordinate with manufacturing support and facilities maintenance for physical plant resource issues, and improve quality. II. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES A. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Evaluate, plan, and improve lean manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. Oversee fabrication shop, machine shop, electrical assembly and mechanical assembly work force utilization, space allocation, workflow, and layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency in production of product. Research and develop new lean manufacturing processes and techniques that can be beneficial to manufacturing, assembly, and planning of production work. Schedule and approve work force allocation for all operations department personnel to meet manufacturing requirements. Ensure performance goals are established and met for scrap/rework, labor efficiencies, and on time deliveries. Work concurrently with engineering and mechanical engineering in providing input for new products, ensuring that manufacturability is integral to the products' design. Review new and existing designs and drawings for manufacturing and production feasibility and efficiency. Evaluate, and assist with the design and development of special equipment, tooling, and/or evaluate or assist in the evaluation of special or new manufacturing equipment or processes.Job 081Production ManagerPage 2 of 4 Confer with MRP/ERP, manufacturing support, and management to ensure efficient production methods. Participate in the evaluation, selection, and management of subcontractor suppliers to ensure their ability to provide appropriate technology and produce a quality product. Confer with subcontractor suppliers to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards. Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for senior management decisions. Coordinate with senior management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Apply advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing(GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5M: 1994. Coordinate and schedule Factory Acceptance Testing of product. Troubleshoot defects and product failures, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions. Ensure quality control in accordance with the company ISO-9001:2008Quality Assurance System (QAS). Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with company HSE standards and procedures. Interact and support a broad spectrum of personnel internal and external to the company. Work effectively and efficiently in both team-based and independent working environments to reduce costs and add value to the organization. Provide effective management of subordinates to achieve desired results.Attributes necessary to meet this need may include communications, motivation, team building, employee involvement, diplomacy, delegating, etc. skills as well as confidence and enthusiasm. Represent the technical capabilities of the company and its products at customer and vendor interface meetings, trade shows, conferences and seminars. MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE Satisfactorily completes all duties and responsibilities as outlined above. Satisfactorily completes all other tasks assigned by the ManufacturingManager. C. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Reports directly to the Manufacturing Manager on ongoing activities and will consult with the General Manager or President on major problem areas or deviations from project objectives or expectations. D. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Directly supervises all supervisory personnel in machining, fabrication and assembly. E. TRAVEL PERCENTAGE AND DURATION Light (generally less than 10 percent and less than one (1) week) III. REQUIREMENTS A. GENERAL Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed or are able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in order to safely perform the essential responsibilities of the job. Must be able to read, write, and speakEnglish to SPL 7. Must show proof of eligibility to work in the United States. B. PHYSICAL Must be capable of verbal communication, hearing, and have adequate vision for reading small print and diagrams. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to: computers, fax machines, copy machines, and telephones in addition to small hand tools and measuring devices. Must frequently negotiate vertical ladders and be able to mount test platforms and fixtures. C. COGNITIVE Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.Job 081Production ManagerPage 4 of 4 IV. QUALIFICATIONS A. MINIMUM Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical,Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology or seven (7) years of equivalent education, training, and experience; Advanced experience with reading and interpreting 3D Solid Modeling and2D CADD drawings; Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5M: 1994; Experience with both manual and CNC machining and programming; Advanced experience with planning and scheduling, including use ofMicrosoft Project or similar scheduling software; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs; and Seven (7) years Manufacturing experience consisting of fabrication,Engineering design, machining, project management, and process loss tracking and improvement. B. PREFERRED Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Mechanical,Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology or 15 years of equivalent education, training, and experience; Advanced experience with reading and interpreting 3D Solid Modeling and2D CADD drawings; Advanced experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5M: 1994; Advanced experience with manual and CNC machining and programming; Five (5) years Project Management experience in the production industry.
