Senior Construction InspectorRequisition Number: 6384Pay Rate: PGR13Location:Houston, TX, USCategory: OtherDescription:Basic FunctionProvides quality control and assurance for construction projects. Ensures projects follow plans and specifications via field verification. Assists in scheduling inspections teams. Provides daily reports on Contractor performance. Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidentsResponsibilities and Specific Duties* Administers, inspects, and monitors scheduled activities for all construction contracts for all METRO construction projects.* Inspects and evaluates work performed by contractors, which include nights and weekends.* Conducts and schedules field and special inspections via contractor daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.* Trains and develops personnel to increase understanding and technical application of codes, policies, and procedures.* Assists, manages, and supervises the review of construction documents and enforcement of codes and ordinances during construction and alterations.* Plans, directs, organizes, and controls inspection teams' performance on METRO projects.* Reviews and evaluates construction plans and inspection reports.* Assists in pre-bid, site visits and evaluation of contract activities.* Reviews and processes inspection company payment applications.* Maintains field files and work records documenting contractor performance.* Assists in the development and coordination of modifications, changes, and scopes of service to existing and proposed new construction management services contracts.* Coordinates and conducts quality control and quality assurance inspections for all METRO construction projects including but not limited to road and bridge projects, vertical building projects, light rail projects, utility projects, and other miscellaneous projects.* Troubleshoots problem areas, identifies, and recommends improvements and/or solutions.* Reviews existing contracts and provides recommendations to improve project quality in the most efficient and economical manner.* Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures.* Coordinates activities with other departments, agencies, and community groups.* Evaluates and prepares inspection budget recommendations.* Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.* Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Education RequirementHigh school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.Years & Experience RequiredTen (10) years' experience as an inspector on civil or vertical construction projects.Knowledge & Skills RequiredValid State of Texas Driver's License. Good communication (verbal and written) skills. Must have the ability to work with spreadsheets, emails, and Microsoft word.Additional Informationhe Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas has a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy for all employees.
