Job Description:

SUMMARY: The Cost Accountant/Estimator is responsible for serving as a valued member in the finance department while working closely with the engineering department and ensuring these departments create accurate and timely reports for the Houston facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Completes month-end closing activities including journal entries and account reconciliations accurately, timely and support quarter and year-end closing activities.
Performs variance analysis based on month-end results.
Estimate the cost of new products.
Compare the actual cost of the finished product to the estimated cost, determine the reason for any discrepancy, and how to remedy.
Analyze the effect of changes in design, materials, and manufacturing methods on costs.
Reviews and updates standard costs, verifies the accuracy of the Bill of Materials & roll standard costs, when necessary.
Assists with the coordination of both internal and external audits.
Supports the Division Controller with analysis of customer and business vertical profitability
Other reporting activities or projects as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Cost Accountant/Estimator has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
Experience with JD Edwards is a plus; experience with in an ERP environment required MS Office, including Excel & Word.
Prior Cost Accounting experience is required.

Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Intermediate Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Majority of workday is spent in office environment. A portion of time is spent in manufacturing assembly environment. Small portion of time is spent outdoors (on job sites) gathering information in support of estimating role.
